- The Laws Book reports Matt was born in Mercer Co, KY - Not named in will of father, Jeremiah Laws II, with no reason(s) given; perhaps indicating that James Madison has received his inheritance in advance. - Reported to have been a duelist, having fought two duels and winning both. - One source reports the birth date as "9-28-1809" and the decease date as "9-9-1881". - 1880 US Census reports James was born in "1810" and that he was born in KY.
