Scheduling Details

All showings are free and open to the public!

All schedules are tentative and are subject to change. In the event of a change in the schedule, we will do our best to notify members via the mailing list. However, we cannot guarantee that things will not change at the last possible moment (although we do of course try to avoid this).

The current week’s and the next week’s schedules are emailed to the mailing list each week, usually on the Thursday before the showing. Special announcements such as room changes, late starts, etc. are also included in these announcements, as well as being posted to the main news page.

Unless otherwise noted, all scheduled programs, with the exception of items shown during the break, are shown in Japanese audio with English subtitles. Break material is sometimes shown unsubtitled; see a specific schedule for details.

Schedules for previous semesters can be found in the archives. You can also search for titles that we have shown.

Time and Place

Showings normally begin at 7:00 PM and last until around midnight, with a roughly half-hour to 45-minute break period starting around 8:45. (The timing of the break sometimes varies, depending on the schedule for the semester; see a specific schedule for the expected break and restart times.)

Sometimes the room that we use is not available until 7:30 or 8:00, due to an exam or other class-related room reservation that takes precedence over ours. In such an event (which usually occurs at least a couple of times per semester), we will post a message to the mailing list, as well as on the main news page. Such nights are also indicated here on the schedule listings for the semester, since we are typically advised of the schedule conflicts at the time of room reservation (which takes place shortly before the start of each new semester).

Showings, announcements, socialization, and all other Club activities are held in Welch Hall, room 1.316. This is the larger of the two lecture halls on the first basement level, just downstairs from the main (ground-floor) lobbies. You do not need to go through any strange doors or exotic lab corridors; if you find yourself amidst suspicious lab equipment or grumbling grad students in lab coats, you are not where you are supposed to be. (Please don’t wander outside of our designated area; we can get in trouble for it, never mind the inherent personal danger to yourself if you wander into an X-ray chamber or something.)

If you are not familiar with Austin or the campus area, feel free to send us an email and we will be happy to provide more detailed directions.

Saturday Marathons

We also periodically hold Saturday Marathons. These special weekend meetings are used to show titles that do not otherwise appear in the regular, weekly lineup. (You won’t “lose your place” in the regular Friday lineup if you miss a Saturday event.) They are also sometimes used to showcase special-interest genres, live-action dramas, or other fare that otherwise might not appear in the regular lineup.

Saturday Marathon showings are normally held in the usual location, unless otherwise stated on the schedule for the event. Start times vary depending on what (and how much) is being shown; Saturday Marathons may be held in the afternoon (typically from 2:00 to around 8:00), or may be held later in the evening (starting around 6:00 or 7:00 and running until around midnight). A dinner break is often scheduled during longer evening runs.
