Anime Club News Archives
Below are all of the news items posted to the web site since January
2002 (when the new news database was put into service). Older news
items are archived
separately.
Because Claymore has been licensed, we are
removing it from the lineup.
A new show, Shigurui has replaced it near the end of our schedule, before Speed Grapher. Please see the schedule page for updated schedules.
The first meeting of the spring semester will take place this Friday,
January 18th. We will be continuing the series being shown last fall,
with the minor change of Minami-ke replacing Zetsubou-sensei
(which has completed its run). Schedules will be posted online later this
week.
Due to the disastrously low participation rate last week (specifically,
zero cosplayers at the meeting), we are going to hold the Halloween
Cosplay Contest™ this Friday (November 2nd).
Also, please be aware that there is once again a test in our room this Friday, so we will not meet until 7:30. Please do not disturb the students taking the test!
The Halloween Cosplay Contest™ is coming up! This Friday (the
26th), come to Anime Club in an anime- or manga-related costume for the
chance to win awesome prizes and everlasting glory!
There is a test in the room before us next week (October 26th), so we will
not meet until 7:30. Please do not disturb the students taking the test!
(It’s not nice, and we will get in trouble for it.)
The first showing of the fall semester will take place on Friday, August 31st.
We will be meeting in our usual room
WEL 1.316),
at the usual time of 7:00 PM.
For those who are returning, we look forward to seeing you again; and to those of you who are considering attending for the first time, please feel free to join us! We will be starting an all-new lineup of shows this semester, so you will not have to worry about coming in in the middle of a long series; and we are also planning some new features for the Club, so now is a great time to become a member! Schedules for the fall lineup will be posted here soon. This is the Anime Club’s 20th anniversary as a registered UT student organization. We hope that everyone will show up, have fun, and enjoy this milestone year with us!
Because Ouran High School Host Club has been licensed (announced
earlier tonight at Otakon), we are
removing it from the lineup. Please see the
schedule page for updated schedules.
We will be meeting in WEL 3.502 on July 13th and July 20th (and then
returning to our usual room after that). WEL 3.502 is the little room on
the back side of Welch Hall, with an outside entrance facing WCH.
Just a reminder, there will be no showing this Friday, July 6th, due
to exams being held this week for some summer classes.
The final showing of the spring semeseter will be held on Friday, May 4th.
We will then have a break for several weeks; the first showing of the
summer will be held on June 8th. (There will be no showing on June 1st
due to A-Kon being held that weekend.)
The schedules for the summer semester will be posted online sometime later this month.
We will be holding two Saturday Marathons this month, showing (across two
nights) the entirety of the Escaflowne series. The first half of
the series will be shown on April 14th, and the second half will be shown
the following weekend (the 21st). Both Saturday Marathons will start at
6:00 PM and run until around midnight.
An unofficial web forum for Anime Club has been created online at
http://animeclubforum.forumup.com/. If you are interested, please check it out. Note that some users have
had trouble receiving the registration confirmation email; if you try to
register but do not get the email, contact the forum administrator (Andy
Pham) at animeclubforumadmin@gmail.com.
Due to member feedback in The Cube®, we will be slightly rearranging
the final three shows of the evening, starting the week after Spring
Break. This Friday’s showing (March 9th) will follow the old
lineup. Hopefully this will provide sufficient time for interested parties
to rearrange their schedules if necessary.
We hope that everyone (who went) had fun at Ikkicon.
This Friday, we will be starting
an all-new lineup of shows. If you have friends who have been interested
in attending but didn’t want to come in and be lost in the
middle of long-running series, now is the time to bring them! Likewise,
if you haven’t been attending in a while, this is a great
time to come back! We’ll see you this Friday!
There is no showing this Friday (the 2nd), due to
Ikkicon taking place this weekend.
We will resume our regular meetings (with an all-new lineup) next Friday,
February 9th.
The first showing of the Spring semester will be Friday, January 19th.
The complete schedules are online.
The first two weeks will be used to finish off the few remaining shows from last semester; then, after a week off for Ikkicon, we will begin an all-new lineup for the semester. We’ll see you this Friday!
The cosplay contest has been moved from October 27th to November 3rd.
Show up in costume on the 3rd for a chance to win manga and other prizes!
We have fixed our room arrangements, and will be meeting again in our
traditional room (WEL 1.316) this semester, starting this Friday
(September 1st).
We have just received notice that our standard room might not be available
for use this Fall. We are looking into this and will attempt to obtain
access to our traditional meeting room; please check back here soon for
further updates on our meeting location.
We have been getting several attempted mailing list
subscription requests sent to our
general information email address.
Please note that mailing list requests go to
a different address; see
the mailing list page for more details.
The first showing of the Fall semester will take place on Friday, September
1st. Schedules for the semester will be posted online sometime within the
next few days.
Based on feedback on the mailing list, we will
probably be substituting an extra episode of Ouran High School Host
Club instead of an extra Higurashi episode to fill the vacant
slot in the lineup this Friday.
Because Utawarerumono was announced as being licensed, it has been
removed from the lineup. We tentatively plan to double up on episodes of
Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni to take its place.
There will be NO SHOWING this Friday (July 7th) due to first-session
exams. We will resume our normal schedule next week.
We will be holding the remainder of our summer meetings in WEL 3.502.
This is the room that opens to the outside of the building, located on the
back portion of Welch. We will NOT be holding meetings in Painter
Hall after all. We apologize for the inconvenience.
We have just received word that our usual room is closed for the summer.
We have been told to meet in
Painter
Hall room 3.02 this semester.
We apologize for the last-minute notice; we only just received word of this this afternoon.
The first showing of the Summer semester will be held this Friday (June 2nd).
Schedules will be posted later this week.
The final Saturday Marathon of the Spring 2006 semester will be held on
this coming Saturday, May 6th. We will be showing the second half of
Full Metal Panic.
The annual vote on Officer confidence passed.
The second Saturday Marathon of the Spring 2006 semester will be held on
this coming Saturday, April 29th. We will be showing the first half of
Full Metal Panic.
We will be holding the annual Officer Confidence Vote in two weeks (April
28th). All active members should be sure to attend. The vote will be
taken during the mid-showing break on that night.
We will be holding a Saturday Marathon of Giant Robo this week (March
4th). The showing will be held in our usual room (WEL 1.316), and will run
from 7:15 PM until about midnight.
The first Saturday Marathon of the Spring 2006 semester will be held on
March 4th. We will be showing Giant Robo.
Just a reminder, there is no showing this Friday (January 27th) due
to UshiCon. Showings will resume
next week (February 3rd).
The first showing of the Spring will take place this Friday, January 20th.
Schedules for the semester will be posted online sometime early this week.
For administrative reasons, the Halloween Cosplay Contest is being delayed
by one week; it will be held during the break of the November 4th meeting
(the Friday a few days after Halloween, rather than before). Be sure to
show up in costume for a chance at anime-related prizes!
Because of issues with the projectors autonomously shutting themselves off
at inopportune times towards the end of the last two showings, we will be
showing the final five minutes of Yakitate!! Japan #12 at the beginning
of that show’s scheduled slot this Friday (before this
week’s regularly scheduled episode), and we will be showing
Excel Saga #1 over in its entirety. We apologize for the
inconvenience.
The first showing of the Fall semester will be held this Friday, Septmber
2nd in WEL 1.316. Schedules will be posted to
the site within the next day or so.
There will be no showing this Friday (July 8th) due to exams.
Schedules for the Summer semester are now online.
The first showing will be held on Friday, June 10th.
Also, beginning this semester we are slightly changing the format of the showings: In order to bring you a more powerful lineup (i.e., more anime, less break), we are now showing four episodes before the break. (The post-break portion of the showing is still six episodes long.) This will reduce the length of the break to 15 - 20 minutes; the restart time will remain the same (around 9:05 under ideal conditions). If you have any issues with this new format, please voice your opinions at the meeting (via the Suggestion Cube). If everyone likes the new schedule layout, we plan to adopt it for the regular (long session) showings beginning this Fall.
The first showing of the Summer semester will be held this Friday (June 10th).
Schedules will be posted later this week.
We will be holding the annual Officer Confidence Vote in two weeks (April
29th). All active members should be sure to attend. The vote will be
taken during the mid-showing break on that night.
We will be holding a Saturday Marathon of Giant Robo (#1 - 7) on
Saturday, April 9th. The showing will be held in the usual room, and will
run from 7:00 PM to around midnight.
Just a reminder, there is no showing this week (the 18th) due to
Spring Break. Showings will resume next week.
Because Naturo has been licensed for domestic distribution, we have
removed it from the lineup. It is being replaced with Yakitate!! Japan
and R.O.D. the TV.
We hope that everyone has had a good Winter Break. Schedules for the
Spring 2005 semester will be posted online soon. Note that showings
will begin on the second week of classes — the first
Friday of this semester coincides with
UshiCon this year, so we will not
be holding a showing that week. Check back soon for schedules.
Due to the fact that no viable movie suggestions/requests were brought
forward, rather than a Movie Night, this Friday (December 3rd) will be a
Special Showing Night: We will be showing the first four episodes of
Genshiken instead of a movie. (The rest of the schedule will
proceed as planned.)
Also, please note that this is the final showing of the Fall semester; stay tuned for updates on Anime Club schedules for the Spring 2005 semester.
There will be no showing on Friday, November 26th due to the Thanksgiving
holiday. The following week (December 3rd) will be the final showing of
this semester.
There is a test in the room before us this Friday (November 19th), so the
showing won’t start until 7:30. Please do not disturb the class
taking the test!
The first (and only) Saturday Marathon of this semester will be held
this Saturday (November 20th). We will be showing the complete series
of Someday’s Dreamers. The showing will be held in
the usual room, and will run from 7:00 PM to midnight.
There is a test in the room before us this Friday (October 29th), so the
showing won't start until 7:30. Do not disturb the class taking the test!
Also, the Halloween Cosplay Contest will be held this Friday during the break period. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes (determined by the audience)!
Because Godannar was licensed for domestic release, we are
removing it from the lineup per our standard policy. We will
be replacing it with R.O.D. (the original OAV).
Tentative schedules for the Fall 2004 semester are now
online.
There will be no showing Friday, August 20th. The first showing
of the Fall semester will be held on August 27th. Schedules for
the Fall semester will be posted here soon.
Because Kyou kara Maou was licensed by
Geneon, it is being removed
from the lineup for the final two weeks of the semester; it will be replaced
by more episodes of Sensei no Ojikan.
The showing this Friday (July 9th) will take place in WEL 2.224
(not our usual room).
We will be updating the schedules for the remaining showings of the
semester to reflect recent licensing announcements. (Per our general
policy, licensed shows will be removed from our weekly lineup.)
Updated schedules should be online later this week.
There will be NO SHOWING THIS FRIDAY (June 11th). The first showing
of the semester will be next Friday (the 18th). We expect to get our normal
(downstairs) room this semester, but we will not know for certain until next
week. Check back next week for details. Schedules
for the Summer semester are online (and have been updated to take into account
the new start date).
We are currently still waiting for our room reservation paperwork to be
processed. As soon as we know what room we will have this summer, we will
post the information here. At this time, we believe that we will still be
able to hold a showing this Friday; but with campus being closed, this is
not yet finalized. Check back soon for further updates.
The summer semester showings will be starting Friday, June 11th. Schedules
will appear online soon.
The Anime Club showings for the Spring semester have ended; the next meeting
will be June 11th (the second week of Summer classes — there
will be no meeting on the first week due to
A-Kon). The schedules for the Summer
semester will be posted online sometime between now and then.
The votes on Officer Confidence and the new Library Coordinator passed.
We will be holding the annual Officer Confidence Vote in two weeks (April
30th). All active members should be sure to attend. The vote will be
taken during the Library Break on that night.
Although classes have been cancelled at UT this afternoon, Anime Club will
still be meeting at the usual place and time this evening.
ADV Films has
announced the
licensing and pending domestic release of Chrno Crusade. Because of
this, the show must be removed from our current lineup. After much
consideration, we have made the decision to replace it with Naruto,
another popular series that had previously been under consideration for
addition into the lineup. We will be resuming Naruto where we left
off last year; the first episode that we will be showing will be episode #12.
Just a reminder, there is no showing this week (the 19th) due to
Spring Break. Showings will resume next week.
The second Saturday Marathon of the semester will be held this Saturday
(the 6th). It will be held in our usual location (WEL 1.316). We will
be starting around 7PM and finishing up around midnight. We will be
showing all 13 episodes of Hundred Stories.
This Friday (February 20th), we will not have access to our usual room
until around 9:00 due to a long exam taking place in the room during the
first part of the evening. The first (pre-break) section of the showing
will take place upstairs in WEL 2.312 (next door to the normal
Library Room). During the Break, we will relocate to our usual room
downstairs.
The first Saturday Marathon of the semester will be held this Saturday
(the 14th). It will be held in our usual location (WEL 1.316). We will
be starting around 6PM and finishing up around midnight. We will be
showing the first 15 episodes of Full Metal Alchemist.
Have you ever dreamed of meeting Yoshiyuki Tomino, the legendary figure
behind all things GUNDAM? Then perhaps you should take a trip to Houston....
On February 27th - 28th, 2004, Yoshiyuki Tomino will be
appearing at a special FREE event, sponsored by the General Consulate
of Japan in Houston, Planet Anime, and Anime-no-Kai. Mr. Tomino will be
hosting a lecture and holding an autograph session. There will also be several
ADV voice actors; anime-related crafts and games; cosplay; and, of course,
Gundam Model Building sessions.
For more information, please visit the KamiKazeCon web site: http://www.kamikazecon.com/
Just a reminder, there is no showing this Friday (January 30th) due
to UshiCon. Showings will resume
next week (February 6th).
The schedules for the Spring semester are now
online. As is typically the case at the beginning of a new semester,
some of the later schedules may be subject to change.
Also, as you may have noticed, we have a new, Abh-themed web layout. If you find any broken links, typos, etc., please email the webmaster. (Note that, despite any rumors that you may have heard, this does not necessarily mean that the Officers have sold out the Club to the Abh Empire.)
The first showing of the Spring semester will be held on January 23rd.
Check back soon for the new semester's schedules!
December 5th was our final showing night of the semester. We will
resume our weekly showings in the Spring, starting on January 23rd.
Schedules for the upcoming semester will be posted online in January.
There is no showing this Friday (the 28th) due to Thanksgiving.
Next week (December 5th) will be the final showing of this semester.
There is a test in the room before us this Friday (November 21st), so the
showing won't start until 7:30. Do not disturb the class taking the test!
There is a test in the room before us this Friday (November 7th), so the
showing won't start until 7:30. Do not disturb the class taking the test!
This Saturday (November 8th), we will be holding our final Saturday
Marathon of this semester (WEL 1.316, 7:00 PM). We will be showing the
entire Onegai Teacher (Please Teacher) series. We showed the first
four episodes of this last Spring during the special pre-release screening
Saturday Marathon; if you don't want to watch the first four over again,
we should be starting episode 5 around 8:30, so you can show up then and
watch the rest of the series. The showing will run until around 12:30.
There is a test in the room before us this Friday (October 31st), so the
showing won't start until 7:30. Do not disturb the class taking the test!
The Hallowe'en Cosplay Contest will be held this Friday. Everyone, be sure to come in costume! Prizes will be awarded. The contest will take place during the Break (starting at approx. 8:30). This Friday is also a special Movie Night. We will be showing the Boogiepop and Others live-action movie (starting at around 10 PM). Based on the original novel in the Boogiepop series, this is the live-action prequel to the Boogiepop Phantom TV anime that we showed last year. (You need not have seen the anime to enjoy the movie.)
We have learned that our usual room (WEL 1.316) will not be available for
the Saturday Marathon on October 25th; instead, we will be holding that
Saturday Marathon in WEL 2.246. Only the showing on the 25th is affected;
all of our normal showings, as well as the other Saturday Marathons (including
this Saturday's showing) will be held in the normal room, WEL 1.316.
Based on the feedback at Friday's meeting, we will be changing
the start time of the Saturday Marathon to 7 PM (and it will thus
be ending around 1 AM). The other Saturday Marathons this semester
will also be starting around 7 PM; see the
schedule for specific dates.
The first Saturday Marathon of the semester will be held this Saturday
(the 11th). It will be held in our usual location (WEL 1.316). We
will be starting around 6PM, and the showing will run until around
midnight. We will be showing the rest of Azumanga Daioh (from where
we left off last Spring) and the first few episodes of Full Metal
Panic Fumoffu.
The tentative Fall schedule is now online.
The first showing of the Fall will be on August 29th (the
first
week of Fall classes).
There will be no showing this Friday (August 22nd). The first showing
of the Fall semester will take place on August 29th. Schedules for the
Fall semester will be appearing online soon!
We will be holding a showing on the 11th. We will be meeting in
WEL 1.308 (the room next door to the room that we normally use,
downstairs from the room that we are using this summer).
We have the option of holding a showing on the 11th (next Friday), but
our normal room is not available that night due to
exams,
and the only room that is available has earned a reputation in the past for
being less than adequate for our needs. We will be soliciting opinions on
whether or not to hold a showing that night at the July 4th meeting, so if
you have an opinion on the matter, be sure to show up and be heard.
Those who are interested in signing up to show support for an English-subtitled
edition of the epic Legend of Galactic Heroes
(Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu) series (as mentioned during our meeting last week)
can sign up at
http://www.gineigoods.com/form/
More information can be found in articles on AnimeNation and AnimeOnDVD.
The schedules for the Summer semester are now
online. Please note that for this semester only, we are meeting in
WEL 2.224 (not our usual room). This is the large classroom
on the ground floor of Welch Hall. Our usual room is undergoing renovations
this semester and should be available again in the Fall.
The first showing of the Summer semester will be held this Friday (June 6th).
Schedules for the Summer semester will be available on
the showings and schedules page soon.
Also, as a reminder, there is no library access
during the Summer.
Don't forget, there is a test in the room before us this Friday (April 25th),
so the showing won't start until 7:30. Do not disturb the class taking the
test!
The votes on Officer Confidence, the new Library Coordinator, and
the Amendments to the Bylaws all passed. The updated Bylaws will
be posted online soon.
Although the University is
closing at
noon tomorrow (Friday, the 18th), we will still be holding
a showing as usual. Also, don't
forget that we will be holding several important votes (including the
annual Officer Confidence vote and a vote on the
proposed Amendments
to the Bylaws) tomorrow during the break (around 8:30).
We will be taking the annual Officer Confidence Vote in two weeks (April
18th). We will also be taking a vote to approve the appointment of Rob
Hamilton as the new Library Coordinator, replacing Conrad, who is retiring
at the end of this semester. Finally, we will also be voting on
proposed Amendments to
the Bylaws, primarily related to formalizing the library
deposits for VCDs (which we did not have when the Bylaws were originally
written). All active members should be sure to attend. The vote will be
taken during the Library Break on that night. Copies of the proposed
amendments will be available
online and in printed
form at next week's meeting as well as on the night of the vote.

#1 - 12 (of 12). The Saturday Marathon will start at 6:00 PM and run
until Midnight.

Club meeting).
We have added a new Member Links page.
This page will provide a list of links to and summaries of anime/manga-themed
web pages maintained by Anime Club members, as well as links to pages
frequented and recommended by fellow Anime Club members. (See
