Anime Club News Archives

Below are all the old news articles from the present back through 1998 or so (the earliest articles that still existed in electronic form).

Because the records have been stored in many formats and maintained by many different people over the years, some eras have more complete records than others; furthermore, links in any of these articles might point to different pages than intended or be entirely broken by now. RightStuf have announced that they now hold the license for domestic distribution of Turn-A Gundam; consequently, we will be removing it from our lineup until the commercially licensed version is available to us. (We hope to be able to return it to the lineup once it is available on disc sometime next year.) Please support the companies that license things for release here!

A replacement for the now-vacant slots remaining in the lineup will be decided upon soon.

The time has come, my friends. Long have the signs foretold the coming of this day. Some doubted; some scoffed; some fled into the darkness and did not return. (Probably because they wandered the halls.) But for those who have stayed true (or who, opportunistically, plan only to show up to tonight’s meeting), a great reward is at hand! Yes: It is true, my friends. The mighty feast-day is upon us—the Day of Celebration of the 27th Birthday of Anime Club Itself™!

Tonight, we shall witness revelry unrivalled throughout the ages (except, of course, in comparison to every other Anime Club Festival, all of which are, as a rule, Most Excellent). There will be Food, Beverages, Games of some sort, and (of course) Prizes. In fact, each person who shows up will be given a Free Prize just for showing up, because on the Anime Club’s birthday, everyone deserves a present. (And of course, we will show much anime, as ever is our way.)

Come, my friends, and let us celebrate.

Just a reminder, we will be meeting in WEL 3.502 tonight (September 19th). This is the lecture hall that's kind of attached to the back of Welch, with its main entrance directly to the outside of the building (rather than into the hallways). This room is smaller (and, many attest, colder) than our usual room; it also had quite a bit of water leaking through the roof in one area the last time it rained, so you might want to check the ceiling overhead for any suspicious discolorations or signs of imminent flooding before you select a seat.

This disruption is, thankfully, temporary: We'll be back in our usual room next week.

There will be no meeting this Friday (August 22nd), as we are (briefly) between semesters. The first meeting of the Fall 2014 semester will be held next Friday (August 29th). With one exception (later in the semester), we will be in our standard room (WEL 1.316) again this semester. Check back for schedule updates once classes are underway.

We’ll be looking forward to seeing you all at Anime Club again soon!

Don’t forget, there will be no meeting this Friday (July 4th) due to it being a holiday, nor will there be a meeting next Friday (July 11th) due to mid-term exams. We will return for more amazing adventures starting July 18th. Have a good holiday, good luck on your exams (if you’re taking any), and we’ll see you in a couple of weeks!

This Friday (May 2nd) will be our final meeting of the Spring semester. As is our typical way for such things, we will be holding a general celebration/movie night event, replete with food, games, and probably the ever-popular prizes. Attending costs nothing; but passing up this opportunity would surely take an incalculable toll upon your very spirit. Therefore, we recommend that you attend, naturally.

Sure, you might have exams to study for or whatever; but think about it—you have exams every semester; how often do you have the chance to revel in such glorious Anime Club fashion as this? (Well, OK, we do this every semester, too; but still. We’re more fun than study sessions, and generally offer better prizes, as well.)

For the aforementioned Movie Night portion of events, we will be showing Nadesico: Prince of Darkness, the movie sequel to the TV series that we wrapped up last week. We’ll also be preceding it with the Gekiganger III OVA, also a sequel to that fine series. We will also be showing the final episodes of the two OVA series that we’ve been showing for the past few weeks, Alien Nine and Cyber City Oedo.

Finally, lest any of you still harbor an insatiable desire for Jojo, that series which was so cruelly cut off from us a month or so ago, take heart, for there will be some excellent Jojo-based awesomeness in store for you. As to the nature of that, we shall say no more here; just show up tomorrow and find out….

The Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure TV series has been licensed for domestic distribution and will consequently be removed from our lineup. Please support the companies that license things for release here.

A replacement for the now-vacant remaining four slots will be decided upon soon.

Don’t forget, there will be no meeting this Friday (March 14th) due to Spring Break. We’ll see you next week!

OK, there are no conventions, no snow/ice days, and hopefully no other interruptions this week, so we’re good to go! We will be meeting this Friday (Febuary 14th) for our regularly scheduled meeting. Also, we’ll have some special Valentine’s Day–themed stuff, so don’t miss it! We’ll see you there!

Just a reminder, we will have no showing this Friday (February 7th) due to Ushicon (a local anime convention) taking place this Friday through Sunday. We will resume our regular schedule next week (February 14th).

Happily, there are no ice storms bearing down on Austin this week, so we will again be back for our usual weekly meeting this Friday (January 31st). We hope to see you there!

UT has officially announced that campus (and all campus-based functions) will be closed for the duration of this Friday, January 24th, due to the ongoing hazardous weather. (For up-to-date information, visit the official UT emergency status page.) Therefore, there will be no Anime Club meeting this Friday (January 24th).

We’ll update the schedules on the site before next Friday; but basically, everything will just shift by one week. Stay safe and warm, and we’ll see you all next week!

Welcome back from Winter Break™! We hope you’re ready to get back to studying, or at least ready to return to Anime Club. Our first meeting of the Spring 2014 semester will be held tonight (January 17th) in WEL 1.316 at 7:00PM (our usual place and time). We’ll be looking forward to seeing you there tonight!

2013

This Friday’s meeting (December 6th) will be the final showing of the Fall 2013 semester. We will be showing (among other things) the Saint Young Men movie. The weather is forecast to be very cold tonight, but we will have hot popcorn available, so you really have no excuse not to attend. You can study for your exams later. We’ll see you there!

Tonight’s Yakitate!! Japan is an hour-long episode, so the schedule will be slightly adjusted to make room for it. Shion no Ou will not be shown tonight. We’ll be back to our usual lineup next week.

The time has come for our annual Halloween Cosplay Contest and General Excuse for Another Party! Come in costume (nominally anime-related, though really basically anything goes) this Friday (October 25th) for a chance to win prizes, fame, and glory! (We’ll provide the prizes; the fame and glory, you’ll have to earn from your peers.) We will also have various other prizes and treats, even for those among you who, for whatever misguided reason, choose to show up not in costume. We hope to see you there!

Just a reminder, you have one week left to prepare for the annual Halloween Cosplay Contest! The grand festival shall be held next Friday (October 25th), during our regularly scheduled meeting. We hope to see you all there (in costume)!

Long, long ago, in a distant era of the previous millennium, a small but influential band of adventurers, rogues, and other mysterious folk came together to found the ancient sacred order now known only as “Anime Club.”

Countless generations of students have come and gone, over the near-inconceivable span of 26 years… but through all the ages, Anime Club has endured, a mighty rock against all foes.

Anime Club has never been defeated on the field of battle. Anime Club has never succumbed to any invasion of Earth, whether from extraterrestrial, transdimensional, or outright daemonic invaders. Not even a non-localized quantum vacuum collapse event has managed to stop us.* We even managed to show the entire run of Legend of Galactic Heroes, including all movies and side stories—a feat that no other student group in UT history has ever even come close to accomplishing.

So come, my friends, and celebrate with us. This Friday, we observe the 26th Birthday of Anime Club.** As is the right and proper way of such things, the evening will be filled nigh to overflowing with festivities: Games, prizes, and various things edible will all feature in the grand festival. And of course, there will also be a full evening’s worth of anime.

Bring friends, family, neighbors, and/or random people from your classes and workplaces! The more, the merrier; our festival is open to all. We hope to see you all there!

* The lack of any of these events occurring is a mere technical detail, and in no way negates the basic truth of these statements.

** The actual Birthday is next Tuesday, and we encourage you to observe that special day as well, after whatever fashion seems best to you; but as the Club does not meet on such lesser days of the week, this Friday shall be our communal Day of Celebration, as is our way.

There will be no meeting this Friday (August 23rd), as we are (briefly) between semesters. The first meeting of the Fall 2013 semester will be held next Friday (August 30th). They finished whatever construction they were doing during the summer, so we’ll be back in our standard room (WEL 1.316) for the Fall semester. We’ll have schedules online soon.

We’ll be looking forward to seeing you all at Club next week!

Just a reminder, we will be meeting in a different room (WEL 3.502) for the remaining meetings of the Summer semester. WEL 3.502 is the lecture hall with a direct entrance on the back side of Welch Hall (facing W.C. Hogg).

The first meeting of the Summer 2013 semester will be held this Friday, June 7th, at 7PM in WEL 1.316 (our usual location and time). Schedules will be posted online later this week. We hope to see you there!

FREE FOOD • FREE PRIZES • FREE PLANETS ALLIANCE

For the past six years, Anime Club has been showing the epic series Legend of the Galactic Heroes. If you’ve been around at all, you surely know of the epically awesome nature of this grand series. (If you haven’t heard of it, you might question whether you have, in fact, even been attending the Anime Club at all, since it is nigh-inescapable around here.) You might remember fondly singing the anthem of the Free Planets Alliance or making your strategic move to seize a critical portion of the Empire Cake at our last celebration. The more scholarly among you might have even been around for part of Thai’s LoGH Lectures, an award-winning* series of weekly discourse on the finer points of military and political strategy in the series.

But, of course, even the mightiest of works must one day come to an end; and now, for LoGH, that day has come. After 162 OVA episodes, three movies, and even some live-action shenanigans, we are finally going to conclude the series this Friday, May 3rd.

Of course, we will have food, games, and assorted accoutrements befitting the grand celebration of such an Event. We shall start at our customary 7PM and, as usual, probably wrap up around midnight. But LoGH will endure in our hearts forever.

Be sure to join us this Friday for this, our final meeting of the semester, and the final showing of LoGH (until we decide to show the whole thing over again, of course). As ever, our revelry is free and open to the public; so please bring friends, drag in random strangers, etc.; the more, the merrier. We hope to see you all there!

* We made up the awards ourselves, of course. But there’s nothing wrong with that. One must take the initiative in such things, after all. Reinhard would approve.

There will be no meeting this Friday (March 15th) due to Spring Break. We’ll see you next week!

Just a reminder, we will have no showing this Friday (February 8th) due to Ushicon (a local-area anime convention) taking place this Friday through Sunday. We will resume our regular schedule next week (February 15th).

Welcome back! We hope that you had a good winter break and are ready for the new semester (or, at the very least, ready for the Anime Club portion thereof). Our first meeting of the Spring 2013 semester will be held this Friday (January 18th) in WEL 1.316 at 7:00PM (our usual place and time). Schedules will be posted online later this week; for the most part, we are continuing things from where we left off last semester. Check back soon for the complete schedules, and we’ll be looking forward to seeing you this Friday!

2012

Yes! It is time, once again, for our annual Halloween Cosplay Contest! Come in costume—ostensibly anime-related, though really, anything will do, as long as it’s creative and fun—and have a go at winning some really rather excellent prizes! Not to mention the nigh indescribable glory and fame that quite naturally go along with such victories. Not only that, but we will have, as is our wont at such festivities, a variety of wonderful foodstuffs of various natures—all free, of course! It really will be most excellent.

So get your costumery in order and prepare for the celebration! And be sure to drag kindly bring along a bunch of friends—the more, the merrier! We’ll be looking forward to seeing all of you (and your costumes) there this Friday!

(Note that we will be showing our usual lineup for the night, with the exception of the live-action break material, since we expect the entirety of the break to be consumed by our fantastic revelry.)

Two and a half decades ago, as the grand—some might say mythical (or at least highly inaccurately remembered)—decade of The 1980s was coming to a close, a small but incredibly wise and no doubt good-looking band of anime fans at UT came together to found… Anime Club.

Since then, through countless generations and across the near-inconceivable span of 25 years, the Anime Club has not only endured, but prospered. And now, fellow Anime Club members (and other web-page-reading folk), it is time for a Celebration.

Now, technically, next Monday is the actual anniversary date; but who would want to celebrate something like this on a Monday night? Not we, my friends. Not we. No, our Celebration will be held this Friday (September 21st), in the ever-popular Welch Hall room 1.316, our historical meeting place for the past 15 years, at 7:00 PM, our historical meeting time since… well, forever, I think.

There will be fun! games! contests! prizes! free food! and, of course, anime! You don’t want to miss it! Even if you think you do, I assure you, you do not. Seriously.

As ever, this grand and glorious festivity will be free and open to the public… though we will admit, there might be even grander opportunities for prizes and glory for full, dues-paying members. (Memberships will, conveniently enough, be available for those who wish to sign up at the meeting on Friday, for the almost inconceivably low price of only $10 for a full year’s membership.)

Come all, bring your friends (and enemies), and let us all celebrate 25 years of Anime Club together this Friday!

This morning, the UT campus was evacuated due to a bomb threat. UT has now announced that campus is clear of any threats and all UT functions (aside from classes) will resume at 5PM today. Thus, we will be holding our regularly scheduled meeting tonight. We hope to see you there!

For more information about the UT situation and any additional safety notices, please visit the official UT Emergency Information web site. Be safe!

Following the unexpected licensing of The Rose of Versailles (and its consequent removal from our schedules), we have decided to replace it in the lineup with Future Boy Conan. We will be starting the series at our showing this Friday (September 14th).

We have leared that one of the titles from our lineup, The Rose of Versailles, was licensed for domestic distribution earlier today. Consequently, we will be removing it from our lineup. We are considering various series for a replacement; please check back later this week for updates.

The domestic release of the series, which is being produced by Right Stuf, is scheduled to begin streaming online later this year, with a complete DVD set to follow in 2013. Please support the company when this fine series becomes available here.

Are you ready for the Fall semester? (We hope so!) Classes start this Wednesday, which means the first Anime Club meeting of the semester will be held this Friday, August 31st. We’ll be meeting in our usual room (WEL 1.316) at the usual time (7PM–midnight).

We’re kicking off a nearly all-new lineup this semester—only two shows are continuing from last Spring—and we’ve managed to work in just about all of the major requests that you put forward last semester. If you have the time, take a look at the schedules for what we have planned: With shows ranging from the late-’70s shoujo classic Rose of Versailles to the still-on-the-air-in-Japan Hyouka, we have a pretty broad range of eras and genres represented. And of course, we’ll be featuring a live-action Japanese drama show during the break each week.

This year is also a special milestone for us: In just a few weeks, it will have been 25 years since the Anime Club was first registered as a student organization at UT! (Oral histories passed down from our elders suggest that the Club actually started meeting unofficially some years earlier, before someone eventually thought to register it for official recognition; but we work with what we have.) You won’t want to miss our 25th birthday celebration! We’ll post more about our plans as the date nears….

So, welcome (or welcome back) to Anime Club, and we’ll be looking forward to seeing you all this Friday!

We hope you have all enjoyed the Summer semester! (Or your vacations, for those of you who left town for the Summer.) This Friday (August 10th) will be the final meeting of the semester; we’ll be wrapping up Ben-to and Hetalia (second season), showing a couple of Azazel-san OVAs, and finishing up the night with the 2009 theatrical film Summer Wars (in full HD, as has been our Movie Night trend of late). We hope to see you there!

The first meeting of the 2012–2013 academic year will be held on August 31st. We finished almost all of the series that we were showing last Spring, so we’ll have an (almost) all-new lineup for you this Fall; check back soon for schedules and other details. Also of note, we will be celebrating Anime Club’s 25th year as a registered student organization! We’ll be looking forward to seeing you all soon….

Just a reminder, there will be no showing this Friday (July 6th) due to midterm exams for the Summer session. We will resume our regular weekly meetings next week. Good luck on your exams!

For those of you who will be around this Summer, our Summer meetings begin next Friday (June 8th). (This Friday, we’ll all be in Dallas for A-Kon 23.) Schedules for the Summer semester will be posted online next week. We hope to see you all again soon!

We just received word that we were accepted for a spot at Forty Acres Fest on campus this Saturday (April 14th). Come join us (and a bunch of other student organizations) for an afternoon of fun and games (and, at least in the case of our table, anime)! Forty Acres Fest will be held around the Main Building area from noon to 5PM. See you there!

We hope you all had a great Spring Break! Our regular meetings will resume this Friday (March 23rd).

Be sure to join us this week for our first Movie Night of the semester—we’ll be showing the 2009 theatrical film Redline, in full HD. Also, free popcorn will be provided!

Please note, however, that this week’s meeting starts at 8PM (an hour later than usual) due to a test or other offical function taking place before us in our usual room. If you show up early, please wait in the hallway (quietly!) and do not enter the room until the Officers have verified that the previous users have finished and left for the evening.

We hope to see you there! (And bring a friend or two for the show!)

Just a reminder, there will be no meeting this Friday (March 16th) due to Spring Break. We hope you’re having a good break from your studies, and we’ll see you all next week!

We will be meeting in WEL 1.308 tomorrow night (February 10th) due to some sort of official function (probably an exam) taking place in our usual room. Welch 1.308 is the room next door to our usual room. Please don’t barge into our normal room and disturb the test-takers!

Just a reminder, we will have no showing this Friday (February 3rd) due to Ushicon (a local-area anime convention) taking place this Friday through Sunday. We will resume our regular schedule next week (February 10th).

Welcome back! We hope that you all had a good Winter Break and are back and ready for the new semester. The first Anime Club meeting of 2012 will be held this coming Friday, January 20th, in our usual location (Welch Hall, room 1.316)*. The lineup is mostly a continuation of last semester’s, although there are a few new titles filling in the spaces for those shows that concluded last Fall.

* Actually, we still haven’t heard back from the Student Orgs office about our room reservations for this semester, so there’s a (small) chance that we’ll have a Late Start night or something this Friday. If that occurs, we’ll post an update here.

2011

OK, so it took a month or so (sorry about that), but the Cosplay Contest photos from the Halloween meeting are now online! You can click a photo below to view it at a larger size.

This Friday’s showing (December 2nd) will be the final meeting of the Fall 2011 semester. We’ll be showing two movies; after tallying all the votes for what you wanted to see, the winners were Professor Layton and the Eternal Diva (winner by a landslide!) and Colorful (the final victor of a near-tie between it and two of the other top contenders).

After this week’s meeting, we’ll break for the holidays and resume our usual weekly lineup in the January, along with some fresh additions to take the place of the shows that we’ve finished this semester. If you have any last-minute suggestions or requests for the new lineup, this Friday will be your last chance before the break to let us know, so be sure to put some suggestions into The Cube on Friday! We’ll see you then….

It is time, once again, for our annual Halloween Cosplay Contest! Dress up in a costume—ideally, but not necessarily, one that could plausibly be claimed to be anime-, manga-, or game-related—and compete for glory, fame, and prizes! (Glory and fame not guaranteed.)

The contest will be held during the break this Friday (October 28th). We will also have food, candy, and possibly other stuff as well. Bring your friends (or enemies)! Costumes encouraged, but not required. And of course, we will still be watching anime, as usual. We’ll see you there!

Please note that there will be a test (or some other function) taking place in our room right before our meeting this Friday (October 21st), so we will not meet until 7:30 PM this week. Please do not disturb the students taking the test! If you arrive early, please wait (quietly) in the hall until the Officers have verified that the test is over and the room has been vacated. Thank you!

This week marks the 24th birthday of the Anime Club, which was founded (or at least formally registered as a UT student group) on September 24th, 1987. We’re pretty sure that it is older than most of its members at this point, so you can boast to your friends, grandparents, and potential employers about being a member of a generations-old Society. Feel free to refer to us as a scholarly order, secret society, quasi-religious rite, or whatever works best in your situation.

In celebration of this date, at this Friday’s meeting (September 23rd), we will be serving tasty confectionaries of an as-yet undisclosed nature. Come celebrate with us! And maybe sign up for a membership, if you haven’t already. (But you can still have free food, even if you unwisely turn away from the path of full membership.)

We’ll see you there tonight!

The schedules for the Fall 2011 semester are now online. See you on Friday!

The first meeting of the Fall semester will be held on Friday, August 26th; we have not yet received our official room assignments, but presumably it will be held at the usual place and time (Welch Hall 1.316 at 7:00PM).

Schedules for the semester will be posted here soon; check back next week to see what’s in store. We hope to see you all next Friday!

Because Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika was licensed for US release, we have removed it from the lineup. In its place, we will be showing the first season of Hetalia.

Just a reminder, there will be no showing this Friday (July 8th) due to midterm exams for the Summer session. We will resume our regular weekly meetings next week. Good luck on your exams!

The first showing of the Summer 2011 semester will be held this Friday, June 3rd, in our usual room (WEL 1.316). Schedules will be posted online later this week. We hope to see you there!

Join us tonight (May 6th) for the second of the Legend of Galactic Heroes movies, “Overture to a New War.” We will also be concluding Baccano! and Zegapain tonight. Plus, this is the final night for our Librarian, Katelyn, to show one more episode of Master Keaton before she graduates; don’t miss it!

This will the the final showing for the Spring 2011 semester; study and do well on your exams, and we’ll see you again next semester! Summer showings will begin in June; check back here later for the schedules.

Join us this Friday (April 29th) as we show the first of the Legend of Galactic Heroes movies, “My Conquest is the Sea of Stars.”

Please note that there will be a test (or some other function) taking place in the room before us this week, so we will not meet until 7:30 PM. Please do not disturb the students taking the test! If you arrive early, please wait (quietly) in the hall until the Officers have verified that the test is over and the room has been vacated. Thank you!

This Friday, we will—at long last—be showing the final episode of Legend of Galactic Heroes. Some of you have been attending faithfully since we started with episode #1 back in Fall 2007; others of you have joined over the intervening years, and have, hopefully, caught up. A few of you, most unwisely, haven’t even been watching it.

At any rate, the four-year, 110-episode-long run of this epic OVA series—the longest series that Anime Club has ever shown in its entirety—concludes this Friday. In recognition of LoGH’s basically unassailable awesomeness, and as a reward for everyone who has watched it with us over the years, we will be having a LoGH celebration during the Break at this week’s meeting. There will be (LoGH-themed) cake, there might be LoGH cosplay, and—according to Katelyn, anyway—there is even a chance of some sort of Free Planets Alliance Anthem Sing-Along. You do not want to miss this festival of awesomeness (except maybe for the sing-along part)!

Furthermore, we are concluding the much shorter (but still pretty awesome) Scrapped Princess this Friday, as well. This will also figure prominently in the celebration, in an edible fashion.

Really, you do not want to miss this week’s meeting. Furthermore, we recommend you bring friends and allies.

Welcome back from Spring Break!

We are back in our usual room this week; but please note that there will be a test (or some other function) taking place in the room before us this Friday (March 25th), so we will not meet until 7:30 PM this week. Please do not disturb the students taking the test! If you arrive early, please wait (quietly) in the hall until the Officers have verified that the test is over and the room has been vacated. Thank you!

This Friday (March 11th), we will be meeting in WEL 3.502 instead of in our usual room. WEL 3.502 is the “outside room” on the back of Welch Hall, with the entrance facing Hogg.

We’re back in our usual room (WEL 1.316) at the usual time (7:00 PM) this week (February 18th). See you there!

Don’t forget—we will be meeting in Painter Hall (PAI) room 2.48 this Friday (February 11th), because all rooms in Welch Hall are reserved for a special function this week. We will return to our usual zone next week.

Just a reminder, we will have no showing this Friday (February 4th) due to Ushicon (a local-area anime convention) taking place this Friday through Sunday. We will resume our regular schedule next week.

Welcome back! We hope that you all had a good Winter Break and are back and ready for the new semester. The first Anime Club meeting of the Spring 2011 semester will be held this coming Friday, January 21st, in our usual location (Welch Hall, room 1.316).

In the lineup, we will be continuing (and, by the end of the semester, concluding) the series that we didn’t finish last semester: Legend of Galactic Heroes, Scrapped Princess, and Zegapain. We also have several new shows that we hope you’ll enjoy; watch for the full schedules to be posted here soon!

See you all on Friday….

2010

This Friday’s showing (December 3rd) will be the final meeting of the Fall 2010 semester. It will be a special Double Movie Night, and will conclude with the long-awaited final chapter of Giant Robo. Don’t miss it!

We will also have, during the break, a special activity, capable of generating copious amounts of Achievement Points to accrue on your Anime Club records! You don’t want to miss it! Achievement Points will lead directly to prizes, glory, and additional stickers for your ID card, starting next semester….

We will also have a survey that you can fill out to provide feedback on this semester’s lineup. Please fill one out! If you do not, you will have no one to blame but yourself* if next semester’s lineup is nothing but Master Keaton or something.

* and Katelyn

Just a couple of quick reminders: This week’s meeting (November 19th) will begin at 7:30 PM (half an hour later than usual), due to a class having reserved the room for a test earlier in the evening. If you arrive early, please wait quietly in the hall until it is time for us to have the room. (Don’t stick your head in to check on the status of the test-takers!)

Next week (November 26th), there will be no meeting, due to the Thanksgiving holiday. Don’t try to show up then! The building will be locked, we will not be there, and you might get arrested or something for lurking about the place.

The final showing of the Fall 2010 semester will be held on December 3rd.

A couple of weeks ago, we held our annual Halloween Cosplay Contest. Now behold the amazing photos! (Click a photo to view the full-sized image.)

As we began our preparations, Thai attempted, unsuccessfully, to start “the wave” out in the audience. Or at least, I guess that is what he was doing in this photo.
[Thai, waving his arms around for some unknown reason]

Once things got underway, the contest was quickly decided. All hail the Emperor of the Galaxy!

Our other contestants also engaged in fierce cosplay battle. Behold those whose bravery brought them forth in costume, to be photographed for the world to see:

Finally, there was this guy. Wait—Derek, that’s not a costume! Our vice-president’s wily subterfuge did not succeed.

Last Friday, shortly before Anime Club was scheduled to start, there was a chemical spill inside Welch Hall (what a surprise!). We were left locked out in the cold* while dangerous-looking HazMat squads worked furiously to cover up all evidence of the accident.** We were eventually allowed inside, but we had to drop the first half of the lineup due to the delays. Also, our normal room smelled of poison and death,*** so we relocated to an upstairs room with a more Earth-like atmosphere.

Through a suspiciously coincidental bit of luck, we had exactly enough open “TBA” slots remaining in the semester to make up for the three regularly scheduled shows that we had to omit last week; thus, the schedules for the remaining showings have been updated accordingly, and everthing should still wrap up on schedule by the end of the semester (as long as nothing else spills, leaks, ignites, or explodes in or around Welch between now and then).

Halloween is nearly here, which means it is time for the annual Halloween Cosplay Contest! Dress up in a costume that can at least be argued to be, in some fashion, somewhat anime-, manga-, or game-related, and compete for glory and prizes by parading before your peers!

The contest will be held during the break period of the October 29th meeting. That’s barely a week and a half away, so start getting ready now!

This Friday is the 23rd birthday of Anime Club, which was founded on September 24th, 1987. This birthday, like most birthdays, rarely falls on a Friday; and even when it does, I'm pretty sure that it has never actually been celebrated before. But this week, my friends, we will celebrate it, because we can.

For the Random Slot, we will show something that was released and/or airing in 1987. Come to see what it will be! Furthermore, and perhaps most importantly, during the Break period, there will be tasty Cake.

So, come celebrate with us! Bring your friends and/or enemies (and get them to sign up for memberships)!

“Surely,” you thought, “they couldn’t make Katelyn carry any more DVDs.” But no, the Library has grown again!

Just in time for the Club’s birthday this Friday, we have added hundreds of new discs to the Library. We now have over 725 DVDs available for check-out!

If you aren’t a member yet, perhaps you should consider joining. No, do not even consider: Simply do it now! It really is the only sensible course of action.

See you all on Friday!

If you have recently signed up for a membership and have not yet picked up your undeniably cool and certifiably stylish Anime Club Membership Card, then please come down to the Officer Zone at the beginning of the Break (but not while we’re setting up before the meeting, please!) and claim your card. So far, only around half of you have done so, which is, frankly, inconceivable by any reasonable standard.

As for those of you who—wholly at odds with what is right and proper—haven’t yet signed up as a member, we strongly encourage you to do so, at the earliest possible opportunity! (That would be this Friday.) And then pick up your card, too, please.

A lifetime of glory—not to mention endless riches and social opportunities far out of proportion to what a more mundane student might aspire to—could begin with a single flash of your Anime Club Membership ID. NOW IS THE TIME.

The first meeting of the Fall semester will be held on Friday, August 27th at the usual place and time (Welch Hall 1.316 at 7:00PM).

Schedules for the semester will be posted online soon; expect to see the long-running series from last Spring continuing (some of them reaching their conclusions this semester), as well as a hearty blend of old-school classics and more modern fare. Additionally, prepare yourselves for a significant boost in the already voluminous DVD lending library in the upcoming weeks.

We hope to see you all next Friday!

Just as a reminder, there will be no meeting on July 9th, due to exams taking place for first-session Summer courses. Things will resume as usual on July 16th.

It is with sadness that we learned earlier this week that Jim Rosenbaum, a former Officer and member of the Anime Club during the 1990s, passed away unexpectedly last weekend. Jim was an active member of the Club in its early years, helping out with equipment and media, and working on a number of subtitling projects in the days of Laser Discs and Amiga 2000 subtitling systems.

A number of former officers and Club members, as well as other friends and family, will be traveling to Colorado for a memorial service this weekend. This Friday, during the Break, we will show episode #1 of Future Boy Conan, one of the key projects that he worked on in the early years of the Club.

The schedules for this semester are now online. The first showing of the Summer will take place this Friday (June 11th). We hope to see you there!

Just as a reminder, there will be no showing this Friday (June 4th), due to the Officers (and probably most of the Club) being away in Dallas for A-Kon this weekend.

The first showing of the Summer semester will take place next Friday (June 11th). Schedules will probably be posted early next week (after we get back from A-Kon)….

The final meeting of the Spring 2010 semester will be held this Friday (May 7th). The showing will be a double movie night, opening with Paprika and ending the night with Angel’s Egg. We will also be showing the conclusion of the current arc in LoGH — if you didn’t see last week’s episodes, you would be wise to catch up before watching this week! — and the final episode of Gal Circle (the live-action series being shown during the Break).

We are still working on the schedule for Summer, so if you have any series in particular that you would like to see, please let us know (either via email, or via The Cube® at Friday’s meeting).

We have added almost 200 new DVDs to the Library, thanks to the generous contributions of Cloyce and Gretchen! The new titles will be available for check-out starting this Friday (April 16th). If you arent’t yet a member, consider signing up this week!

Welcome back from Spring Break!

We will resume our usual lineup this week; however, please note that we will have a late start (7:30PM) this Friday (March 26th), due to a test or other official class function reserving the room before us. Please do not disturb the students taking the test. See you at 7:30!

Apparently the DVD/Blu-Ray releases of the final episodes of Bakemonogatari—extra episodes that were not part of the original TV run—have been delayed by the show’s producers until sometime in early June. Therefore, we will end our run of the series with episode #12 next week (April 2nd).

That is the end of the series as it aired on TV in Japan, so there should be at least a bit of closure; or, at any rate, you’ll be sharing your suffering with all of the fans in Japan, who are waiting just as impatiently as you are for the extra episodes to be released.

This Friday (March 12th) will be a Movie Night: We will be showing the 1995 film Memories.

Next week (March 19th), there will be no showing due to Spring Break.

We will resume our normal weekly schedule on March 26th.

There will be a test (or some other function) taking place in the room before us this Friday (February 26th), so we will not meet until 8:00 PM this week. Please do not disturb the students taking the test! If you arrive early, please wait (quietly) in the hall until the Officers have verified that the test is over and the room has been vacated. Thank you!

After much deliberation, we have decided upon GA Geijutsuka Art Design as the replacement for Toradora!, which was licensed last week. Thank you to everyone who submitted suggestions to The Cube (or, in one case, via email)! We now have plenty of potential titles for the Random Slot, as well as a head start on ideas for the lineup for upcoming semesters….

Toradora! has been licensed for U.S. distribution, so it has been removed from the lineup. A replacement for the remainder of the semester will be decided upon shortly.

We have recently added a number of new titles to our DVD lending library. We now have nearly 250 DVDs available for check-out by members, with even more on the way later this Spring! As always, library check-outs are free for active members (with a refundable media deposit on record). If you are not already a member, perhaps now is the time to join….

Welcome back for 2010! We hope that you all had a good Winter Break.

The first showing of the Spring 2010 semester will take place on January 22nd. The schedules for this semester will be posted online this weekend. We look forward to seeing you next Friday!

2009

The final showing of the Fall 2009 semester will be held this Friday (December 4th), and will conclude with the 1986 classic movie They Were Eleven.

Schedules for the Spring semester will be posted some time over the break, and the first showing of the Spring will take place on January 22nd (the first Friday of classes next semester).

There will be no meeting this Friday (November 27th) due to the Thanksgiving holiday. We will meet again next week (December 4th, which will be the final showing of the Fall semester).

There is a test in the room before us this Friday (November 20th), so we will not meet until 7:30 this week. Please do not disturb the students taking the test! If you arrive early, please wait (quietly!) in the hall until the Officers have verified that the test is over and the room has been vacated.

The meeting this week (November 13th) will be held in WEL 1.308, not in our usual room. This relocation is for tonight only.

The Halloween Cosplay Contest is this coming Friday (October 30th)! Come in your best anime-related costume for a chance to win prizes, fame, and everlasting glory! (Fame and everlasting glory not guaranteed.)

There is a test in the room before us this Friday (October 23rd), so we will not meet until 7:30 this week. Please do not disturb the students taking the test! If you arrive early, please wait (quietly!) in the hall until the Officers have verified that the test is over and the room has been vacated.

Halloween is only a few weeks away, and that means it’s time for the annual Halloween Cosplay Contest! On October 30th, we will hold a Cosplay Contest during the mid-showing break period. Come dressed in your best anime-, manga-, or game-related cosplay for a chance to win epic prizes (of some yet-to-be-determined nature)!

We will begin accepting new membership sign-ups this Friday (the 4th). A single-semester membership will cost $4 for a returning member, $5 for a new member; a full-year (Fall + Spring) membership will cost $8 for a returning member, $10 for a new member.

This year, a member will be able to have up to three (3) media deposits on file, to allow checking out more DVDs per week. (The previous limit was two deposits/check-outs at a time.) Returning members who wish to boost their DVD check-out powers can add an additional deposit when applying for this year’s membership.

The first showing of the Fall 2009 semester will take place on Friday, August 28th. We’ll look forward to seeing you there!

Schedules for the Fall lineup should be posted online this weekend.

Don't forget, the meeting tonight will be held in WEL 3.502, not in our usual room. This relocation is for tonight only.

Eden of the East has been licensed by Funimation for distribution in the US. Therefore, we must pull it from our lineup. We are currently exploring options for a replacement series to take its place for the remainder of the Summer semester.

There will be no showing this Friday, July 10th, due to mid-term exams being held this week for some summer classes. Showings will resume next week (July 17th).

The first showing of the Summer semester will be held this Friday (June 5th).

Tonight (May 8th) is the final showing of the Spring 2009 semester. We will be showing a variety of miscellaneous episodes, followed by the movie Perfect Blue.

Our summer meetings will begin on June 5th.

There is a test in the room before us this Friday (May 1st), so we will not meet until 7:30 this week. Please do not disturb the students taking the test! If you arrive early, please wait (quietly!) in the hall until the Officers have verified that the test is over and the room has been vacated.

It is time to plan for the Summer schedule. If you have any suggestions or shows that you would like to see this Summer, please let us know! The best way is to place your suggestion into the Suggestion Cube during a meeting (the sooner the better); but you can also send us your ideas via email.

There is a test in the room before us this Friday (March 27th), so we will not meet until 7:30 this week. Please do not disturb the students taking the test! If you arrive early, please wait (quietly!) in the hall until the Officers have verified that the test is over and the room has been vacated.

This Friday, the lineup will be mostly random episodes, concluded with the 1984 Macross movie Do You Remember Love? The normal lineup will return on the 27th, following Spring Break.

For the random slots, we will be selecting three shows from these five: Kannagi, Macademi Wasshoi!, Toradora!, Tytania, and Kamen no Maid Guy. The final selection will be made at the showing on Friday.

Because the chemistry emergency in the building last week caused us to start an hour late, the PaniPoni episodes that we were unable to show will instead be shown at the beginning of this week’s meeting, in order to keep the schedule on track.

There is a test in the room before us this Friday (February 27th), so we will not meet until 8:00 this week. Please do not disturb the students taking the test! If you arrive early, please wait (quietly!) in the hall until the Officers have verified that the test is over and the room has been vacated.

As a reminder, please note that there is no showing this Friday (February 6th) due to Ikkicon taking place this weekend. We will resume our usual schedule next week (on the 13th).

The first showing of the Spring 2009 semester will take place on January 23rd (two weeks from today).

Schedules will be posted online by sometime next week; the only change in the lineup from last semester will be the replacement of Spice and Wolf (which concluded last semester) with Kyou Kara Maou (picking up where we left off at the end of last Spring).

2008

This Friday (December 5th) will be the final meeting of the semester. Please remember that all library DVDs are due this Friday. Please be sure to turn in any DVDs that you might have checked out.

Thank you to all who participated in the Cosplay Contest last week! We had a very high turnout, and the costumes were all excellent. We hope that everyone enjoyed it!

The Halloween Cosplay Contest™ is coming up! This Friday (the 31st), come to Anime Club in costume for the chance to win awesome prizes and everlasting glory!

Due to the Cosplay Contest, library access will be severely curtailed this evening.

This Friday (October 17th), we will begin taking applications for memberships and library access. The dues for membership will be $7 for the entire 2008–2009 school year, or $4 for just the Fall semester. (The rates are normally higher, but have been reduced due to part of the semester already being over.)

Per UT regulations for student groups, you must be a UT student, faculty, or staff member in order to join as a member and borrow DVDs from the library. (Our Friday night showings are still, as always, free and open to the public.)

The library will contain over 150 DVDs, most of which are Region 1 (US commercial releases) with subtitles. The entire library list will be posted online soon. A member will be able to check out up to two DVDs at a time; each DVD may be borrowed for up to two weeks. A deposit of $10 per DVD must be paid before DVDs may be borrowed. (Note that this is not a rental fee; it is a one-time deposit, which can be returned upon request as long as you have no outstanding late fees, lost DVDs, etc. on record.)

For complete details, please see the Club Bylaws. We will also explain the system in more detail at Friday’s meeting.

The first showing of the Fall 2008 semester will be held on Friday, August 29th. Schedules will be posted soon. We look forward to seeing you there!

We will be meeting in WEL 1.308 (next door) this Friday, July 25th (and then returning to our usual room next week, August 1st).

Because Baccano! was licensed by Funimation on Monday, July 21st, it has been removed from the lineup. We will fill the remaining slots with the short comedy series REC (10 half-length episodes).

The first showing of the Summer session will be held this Friday (June 6th).

Because Claymore has been licensed, we are removing it from the lineup.
A new show, Shigurui, has replaced it near the end of our schedule, before Speed Grapher.
Please see the schedule page for updated schedules.

The first meeting of the spring semester will take place this Friday, January 18th. We will be continuing the series being shown last fall, with the minor change of Minami-ke replacing Zetsubou-sensei (which has completed its run). Schedules will be posted online later this week.

2007

Due to the disastrously low participation rate last week (specifically, zero cosplayers at the meeting), we are going to hold the Halloween Cosplay Contest™ this Friday (November 2nd).

Also, please be aware that there is once again a test in our room this Friday, so we will not meet until 7:30. Please do not disturb the students taking the test!

The Halloween Cosplay Contest™ is coming up! This Friday (the 26th), come to Anime Club in an anime- or manga-related costume for the chance to win awesome prizes and everlasting glory!

There is a test in the room before us next week (October 26th), so we will not meet until 7:30. Please do not disturb the students taking the test! (It’s not nice, and we will get in trouble for it.)

The first showing of the fall semester will take place on Friday, August 31st. We will be meeting in our usual room WEL 1.316), at the usual time of 7:00 PM.

For those who are returning, we look forward to seeing you again; and to those of you who are considering attending for the first time, please feel free to join us! We will be starting an all-new lineup of shows this semester, so you will not have to worry about coming in in the middle of a long series; and we are also planning some new features for the Club, so now is a great time to become a member! Schedules for the fall lineup will be posted here soon.

This is the Anime Club’s 20th anniversary as a registered UT student organization. We hope that everyone will show up, have fun, and enjoy this milestone year with us!

Because Ouran High School Host Club has been licensed (announced earlier tonight at Otakon), we are removing it from the lineup. Please see the schedule page for updated schedules.

We will be meeting in WEL 3.502 on July 13th and July 20th (and then returning to our usual room after that). WEL 3.502 is the little room on the back side of Welch Hall, with an outside entrance facing WCH.

Just a reminder, there will be no showing this Friday, July 6th, due to exams being held this week for some summer classes.

The final showing of the spring semeseter will be held on Friday, May 4th. We will then have a break for several weeks; the first showing of the summer will be held on June 8th. (There will be no showing on June 1st due to A-Kon being held that weekend.)

The schedules for the summer semester will be posted online sometime later this month.

We will be holding two Saturday Marathons this month, showing (across two nights) the entirety of the Escaflowne series. The first half of the series will be shown on April 14th, and the second half will be shown the following weekend (the 21st). Both Saturday Marathons will start at 6:00 PM and run until around midnight.

Due to member feedback in The Cube®, we will be slightly rearranging the final three shows of the evening, starting the week after Spring Break. This Friday’s showing (March 9th) will follow the old lineup. Hopefully this will provide sufficient time for interested parties to rearrange their schedules if necessary.

We hope that everyone (who went) had fun at Ikkicon. This Friday, we will be starting an all-new lineup of shows. If you have friends who have been interested in attending but didn’t want to come in and be lost in the middle of long-running series, now is the time to bring them! Likewise, if you haven’t been attending in a while, this is a great time to come back! We’ll see you this Friday!

There is no showing this Friday (the 2nd), due to Ikkicon taking place this weekend. We will resume our regular meetings (with an all-new lineup) next Friday, February 9th.

The first showing of the Spring semester will be Friday, January 19th. The complete schedules are online.

The first two weeks will be used to finish off the few remaining shows from last semester; then, after a week off for Ikkicon, we will begin an all-new lineup for the semester.

We’ll see you this Friday!

2006

The cosplay contest has been moved from October 27th to November 3rd. Show up in costume on the 3rd for a chance to win manga and other prizes!

We have fixed our room arrangements, and will be meeting again in our traditional room (WEL 1.316) this semester, starting this Friday (September 1st).

We have just received notice that our standard room might not be available for use this Fall. We are looking into this and will attempt to obtain access to our traditional meeting room; please check back here soon for further updates on our meeting location.

The first showing of the Fall semester will take place on Friday, September 1st. Schedules for the semester will be posted online sometime within the next few days.

Based on feedback on the mailing list, we will probably be substituting an extra episode of Ouran High School Host Club instead of an extra Higurashi episode to fill the vacant slot in the lineup this Friday.

Because Utawarerumono was announced as being licensed, it has been removed from the lineup. We tentatively plan to double up on episodes of Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni to take its place.

There will be NO SHOWING this Friday (July 7th) due to first-session exams. We will resume our normal schedule next week.

We will be holding the remainder of our summer meetings in WEL 3.502. This is the room that opens to the outside of the building, located on the back portion of Welch. We will NOT be holding meetings in Painter Hall after all. We apologize for the inconvenience.

We have just received word that our usual room is closed for the summer. We have been told to meet in Painter Hall room 3.02 this semester.

We apologize for the last-minute notice; we only just received word of this this afternoon.

The first showing of the Summer semester will be held this Friday (June 2nd). Schedules will be posted later this week.

The final Saturday Marathon of the Spring 2006 semester will be held on this coming Saturday, May 6th. We will be showing the second half of Full Metal Panic.

We will be holding a Saturday Marathon of Giant Robo this week (March 4th). The showing will be held in our usual room (WEL 1.316), and will run from 7:15 PM until about midnight.

The first Saturday Marathon of the Spring 2006 semester will be held on March 4th. We will be showing Giant Robo.

Just a reminder, there is no showing this Friday (January 27th) due to UshiCon. Showings will resume next week (February 3rd).

The first showing of the Spring will take place this Friday, January 20th. Schedules for the semester will be posted online sometime early this week.

2005

For administrative reasons, the Halloween Cosplay Contest is being delayed by one week; it will be held during the break of the November 4th meeting (the Friday a few days after Halloween, rather than before). Be sure to show up in costume for a chance at anime-related prizes!

Because of issues with the projectors autonomously shutting themselves off at inopportune times towards the end of the last two showings, we will be showing the final five minutes of Yakitate!! Japan #12 at the beginning of that show’s scheduled slot this Friday (before this week’s regularly scheduled episode), and we will be showing Excel Saga #1 over in its entirety. We apologize for the inconvenience.

The first showing of the Fall semester will be held this Friday, Septmber 2nd in WEL 1.316. Schedules will be posted to the site within the next day or so.

There will be no showing this Friday (July 8th) due to exams.

Schedules for the Summer semester are now online. The first showing will be held on Friday, June 10th.

Also, beginning this semester we are slightly changing the format of the showings: In order to bring you a more powerful lineup (i.e., more anime, less break), we are now showing four episodes before the break. (The post-break portion of the showing is still six episodes long.) This will reduce the length of the break to 15 - 20 minutes; the restart time will remain the same (around 9:05 under ideal conditions).

If you have any issues with this new format, please voice your opinions at the meeting (via the Suggestion Cube). If everyone likes the new schedule layout, we plan to adopt it for the regular (long session) showings beginning this Fall.

The first showing of the Summer semester will be held this Friday (June 10th). Schedules will be posted later this week.

We will be holding the annual Officer Confidence Vote in two weeks (April 29th). All active members should be sure to attend. The vote will be taken during the mid-showing break on that night.

We will be holding a Saturday Marathon of Giant Robo (#1 - 7) on Saturday, April 9th. The showing will be held in the usual room, and will run from 7:00 PM to around midnight.

Just a reminder, there is no showing this week (the 18th) due to Spring Break. Showings will resume next week.

Because Naturo has been licensed for domestic distribution, we have removed it from the lineup. It is being replaced with Yakitate!! Japan and R.O.D. the TV.

We hope that everyone has had a good Winter Break. Schedules for the Spring 2005 semester will be posted online soon. Note that showings will begin on the second week of classes — the first Friday of this semester coincides with UshiCon this year, so we will not be holding a showing that week. Check back soon for schedules.

2004

Due to the fact that no viable movie suggestions/requests were brought forward, rather than a Movie Night, this Friday (December 3rd) will be a Special Showing Night: We will be showing the first four episodes of Genshiken instead of a movie. (The rest of the schedule will proceed as planned.)

Also, please note that this is the final showing of the Fall semester; stay tuned for updates on Anime Club schedules for the Spring 2005 semester.

There will be no showing on Friday, November 26th due to the Thanksgiving holiday. The following week (December 3rd) will be the final showing of this semester.

There is a test in the room before us this Friday (November 19th), so the showing won’t start until 7:30. Please do not disturb the class taking the test!

The first (and only) Saturday Marathon of this semester will be held this Saturday (November 20th). We will be showing the complete series of Someday’s Dreamers. The showing will be held in the usual room, and will run from 7:00 PM to midnight.

There is a test in the room before us this Friday (October 29th), so the showing won't start until 7:30. Do not disturb the class taking the test!

Also, the Halloween Cosplay Contest will be held this Friday during the break period. Prizes will be awarded for the best costumes (determined by the audience)!

Because Godannar was licensed for domestic release, we are removing it from the lineup per our standard policy. We will be replacing it with R.O.D. (the original OAV).

Tentative schedules for the Fall 2004 semester are now online.

There will be no showing Friday, August 20th. The first showing of the Fall semester will be held on August 27th. Schedules for the Fall semester will be posted here soon.

Because Kyou kara Maou was licensed by Geneon, it is being removed from the lineup for the final two weeks of the semester; it will be replaced by more episodes of Sensei no Ojikan.

The showing this Friday (July 9th) will take place in WEL 2.224 (not our usual room).

We will be updating the schedules for the remaining showings of the semester to reflect recent licensing announcements. (Per our general policy, licensed shows will be removed from our weekly lineup.) Updated schedules should be online later this week.

There will be NO SHOWING THIS FRIDAY (June 11th). The first showing of the semester will be next Friday (the 18th). We expect to get our normal (downstairs) room this semester, but we will not know for certain until next week. Check back next week for details. Schedules for the Summer semester are online (and have been updated to take into account the new start date).

We are currently still waiting for our room reservation paperwork to be processed. As soon as we know what room we will have this summer, we will post the information here. At this time, we believe that we will still be able to hold a showing this Friday; but with campus being closed, this is not yet finalized. Check back soon for further updates.

The summer semester showings will be starting Friday, June 11th. Schedules will appear online soon.

The Anime Club showings for the Spring semester have ended; the next meeting will be June 11th (the second week of Summer classes — there will be no meeting on the first week due to A-Kon). The schedules for the Summer semester will be posted online sometime between now and then.

The votes on Officer Confidence and the new Library Coordinator passed.

We will be holding the annual Officer Confidence Vote in two weeks (April 30th). All active members should be sure to attend. The vote will be taken during the Library Break on that night.

Although classes have been cancelled at UT this afternoon, Anime Club will still be meeting at the usual place and time this evening.

ADV Films has announced the licensing and pending domestic release of Chrno Crusade. Because of this, the show must be removed from our current lineup. After much consideration, we have made the decision to replace it with Naruto, another popular series that had previously been under consideration for addition into the lineup. We will be resuming Naruto where we left off last year; the first episode that we will be showing will be episode #12.

Just a reminder, there is no showing this week (the 19th) due to Spring Break. Showings will resume next week.

The second Saturday Marathon of the semester will be held this Saturday (the 6th). It will be held in our usual location (WEL 1.316). We will be starting around 7PM and finishing up around midnight. We will be showing all 13 episodes of Hundred Stories.

This Friday (February 20th), we will not have access to our usual room until around 9:00 due to a long exam taking place in the room during the first part of the evening. The first (pre-break) section of the showing will take place upstairs in WEL 2.312 (next door to the normal Library Room). During the Break, we will relocate to our usual room downstairs.

The first Saturday Marathon of the semester will be held this Saturday (the 14th). It will be held in our usual location (WEL 1.316). We will be starting around 6PM and finishing up around midnight. We will be showing the first 15 episodes of Full Metal Alchemist.

Have you ever dreamed of meeting Yoshiyuki Tomino, the legendary figure behind all things GUNDAM? Then perhaps you should take a trip to Houston.... On February 27th - 28th, 2004, Yoshiyuki Tomino will be appearing at a special FREE event, sponsored by the General Consulate of Japan in Houston, Planet Anime, and Anime-no-Kai. Mr. Tomino will be hosting a lecture and holding an autograph session. There will also be several ADV voice actors; anime-related crafts and games; cosplay; and, of course, Gundam Model Building sessions.

For more information, please visit the KamiKazeCon web site:
   http://www.kamikazecon.com/

Just a reminder, there is no showing this Friday (January 30th) due to UshiCon. Showings will resume next week (February 6th).

The schedules for the Spring semester are now online. As is typically the case at the beginning of a new semester, some of the later schedules may be subject to change.

Also, as you may have noticed, we have a new, Abh-themed web layout. If you find any broken links, typos, etc., please email the webmaster. (Note that, despite any rumors that you may have heard, this does not necessarily mean that the Officers have sold out the Club to the Abh Empire.)

The first showing of the Spring semester will be held on January 23rd. Check back soon for the new semester's schedules!

2003

December 5th was our final showing night of the semester. We will resume our weekly showings in the Spring, starting on January 23rd. Schedules for the upcoming semester will be posted online in January.

There is no showing this Friday (the 28th) due to Thanksgiving. Next week (December 5th) will be the final showing of this semester.

There is a test in the room before us this Friday (November 21st), so the showing won't start until 7:30. Do not disturb the class taking the test!

This Saturday (November 8th), we will be holding our final Saturday Marathon of this semester (WEL 1.316, 7:00 PM). We will be showing the entire Onegai Teacher (Please Teacher) series. We showed the first four episodes of this last Spring during the special pre-release screening Saturday Marathon; if you don't want to watch the first four over again, we should be starting episode 5 around 8:30, so you can show up then and watch the rest of the series. The showing will run until around 12:30.

There is a test in the room before us this Friday (October 31st), so the showing won't start until 7:30. Do not disturb the class taking the test!

The Hallowe'en Cosplay Contest will be held this Friday. Everyone, be sure to come in costume! Prizes will be awarded. The contest will take place during the Break (starting at approx. 8:30).

This Friday is also a special Movie Night. We will be showing the Boogiepop and Others live-action movie (starting at around 10 PM). Based on the original novel in the Boogiepop series, this is the live-action prequel to the Boogiepop Phantom TV anime that we showed last year. (You need not have seen the anime to enjoy the movie.)

We have learned that our usual room (WEL 1.316) will not be available for the Saturday Marathon on October 25th; instead, we will be holding that Saturday Marathon in WEL 2.246. Only the showing on the 25th is affected; all of our normal showings, as well as the other Saturday Marathons (including this Saturday's showing) will be held in the normal room, WEL 1.316.

Based on the feedback at Friday's meeting, we will be changing the start time of the Saturday Marathon to 7 PM (and it will thus be ending around 1 AM). The other Saturday Marathons this semester will also be starting around 7 PM; see the schedule for specific dates.

The first Saturday Marathon of the semester will be held this Saturday (the 11th). It will be held in our usual location (WEL 1.316). We will be starting around 6PM, and the showing will run until around midnight. We will be showing the rest of Azumanga Daioh (from where we left off last Spring) and the first few episodes of Full Metal Panic Fumoffu.

The tentative Fall schedule is now online. The first showing of the Fall will be on August 29th (the first week of Fall classes).

There will be no showing this Friday (August 22nd). The first showing of the Fall semester will take place on August 29th. Schedules for the Fall semester will be appearing online soon!

We will be holding a showing on the 11th. We will be meeting in WEL 1.308 (the room next door to the room that we normally use, downstairs from the room that we are using this summer).

We have the option of holding a showing on the 11th (next Friday), but our normal room is not available that night due to exams, and the only room that is available has earned a reputation in the past for being less than adequate for our needs. We will be soliciting opinions on whether or not to hold a showing that night at the July 4th meeting, so if you have an opinion on the matter, be sure to show up and be heard.

Those who are interested in signing up to show support for an English-subtitled edition of the epic Legend of Galactic Heroes (Ginga Eiyuu Densetsu) series (as mentioned during our meeting last week) can sign up at http://www.gineigoods.com/form/

More information can be found in articles on AnimeNation and AnimeOnDVD.

The schedules for the Summer semester are now online. Please note that for this semester only, we are meeting in WEL 2.224 (not our usual room). This is the large classroom on the ground floor of Welch Hall. Our usual room is undergoing renovations this semester and should be available again in the Fall.

The first showing of the Summer semester will be held this Friday (June 6th). Schedules for the Summer semester will be available on the showings and schedules page soon. Also, as a reminder, there is no library access during the Summer.

The votes on Officer Confidence, the new Library Coordinator, and the Amendments to the Bylaws all passed. The updated Bylaws will be posted online soon.

Although the University is closing at noon tomorrow (Friday, the 18th), we will still be holding a showing as usual. Also, don't forget that we will be holding several important votes (including the annual Officer Confidence vote and a vote on the proposed Amendments to the Bylaws) tomorrow during the break (around 8:30).

We will be taking the annual Officer Confidence Vote in two weeks (April 18th). We will also be taking a vote to approve the appointment of Rob Hamilton as the new Library Coordinator, replacing Conrad, who is retiring at the end of this semester. Finally, we will also be voting on proposed Amendments to the Bylaws, primarily related to formalizing the library deposits for VCDs (which we did not have when the Bylaws were originally written). All active members should be sure to attend. The vote will be taken during the Library Break on that night. Copies of the proposed amendments will be available online and in printed form at next week's meeting as well as on the night of the vote.

The next Saturday Marathon will be this Saturday (the 22nd). We will be showing UFO Princess Walküre #1 - 12 (of 12). The Saturday Marathon will start at 6:00 PM and run until Midnight.

The Anime Club proudly presents the conclusion of Hana Yori Dango! A marathon of episodes #37–51 will run on Saturday, October 13th, from 7:00 PM on, in Welch 1.308, a.k.a. the normal place.

The Friday, September 14th showing has been postponed to Saturday, September 15th. Same Babbit time, same babbit channel.

There will be a marathon showing of Hana Yori Dango episodes #27–36 in Welch 2.316, currently scheduled for Saturday, September 22nd, starting at 7:00 PM.

There is a new section in the archives for official documents or anything related to the business of running the club, which currently contains the letter from the University. If you have any questions, please let us know.

To everyone returning from last semester, welcome back. The schedule for the Summer showings have been moved to the archives, along with the news posts, and the Fall schedule is up. Everything else should be updated soon.

Since this is the beginning of a new semester, I again submit my request to any UT student with a pencil to send in art for the web page. Anime is the theme, original designs are welcome, and if you can’t scan it then bring it to a meeting and give it to an officer.

Information about the first showing of the fall semester is up.

The marathon of Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040 will begin at 6:00 PM in the usual showing room, Welch 1.316. There will be a Dinner break, and wrap-up will be around midnight.

The schedule has been updated to include a new showing, which has allowed us to include two more complete series: Oh My Goddess! (5 episodes) and Those Who Hunt Elves (12 episodes).

A marathon of the first ten episodes of Bubblegum Crisis: Tokyo 2040 has been scheduled for Saturday, June 23, in the normal place. Details will be provided.

To everyone who went to Project: A-Kon, welcome back! Summer showings will begin this Friday (6/8 — tomorrow). We hope to see as many people as possible.

The web page design has been reworked again, although most of the changes were behind the scenes. You will probably notice more buttons up top for faster access, and the archives are complete.

Also new is the Summaries page, for posting information related to a certain show. If anyone feels like providing a summary for something we are watching or have watched in the past, send it here. If there is a call for it, the page could be expanded to include reviews and comments from the members.

I’m sorry that the library information is still not available, and there is still no art to be found. (Please, submit something, anything!)

Welcome to the new web page design for the Anime Club at UT Austin. The temporary page wasn’t up nearly as long as I thought it would be. Construction is still in progress, so be careful of falling objects.

This is the new news format. At the bottom, there is a signature bar with the name of the officer who supplied the information, and the date of the post. When this page becomes too full, the older posts will be moved to the Archives.

If you would like to submit art for the webpage, email it here, or give it to one of the officers at a meeting. Be sure to include your name and email if you would like credit.

2000

A partial update in the showings page has what we have shown so far over the Summer as well as the tentative showings for the rest of the session.

Yes, we’re still around. Yes, we’re having summer showings (with no library). The lack of updates is (mostly) due to a lack of new information, and the webmaster’s work on a new version of the site. Big changes coming. Stay tuned.

Welcome to the year 2000, folks. Now where’s my jetpack and robot butler?

The first showing of the spring semester will be on Friday, January 21st in the usual location of Welch 1.316. Dates for the rest of the semester can be found on the showings page, and individual showing schedules will be added as they become available.

As part of the New Year’s housecleaning, the old news items have been moved to the ever-exciting old news page. There have also been minor changes and updates to the People and Links pages.

1999

Schedules have been posted for showings through October and the beginning of November.

Showing schedules have been posted for the rest of September. October listings will follow shortly.

The first showing of the Fall Semester will be held on August 27th, in the usual location. There will be no library checkouts during thsi first showing, but sponsorship forms will be available.

A list of showing dates for the Fall semester are on the showings page. Individual schedules will be posted when available.

The July 2nd showing will be held in Welch 2.224, instead of the usual location. Room 2.224 is on the ground-level floor, instead of downstairs.

And, contrary to previous mailing-list announcements, we will be having a showing on July 9th, in our usual location of Welch 1.316. All showings for the rest of the summer semester will be in that room.

What happened to the web guy? The web guy has a new job and a lot more work to do. Apologies are offered for the rarity of updates recently.

Project A-Kon is coming up next wek, on June 4th, 5th, and 6th. Since all of the club officers (and most of the membership) will be at the con, we’re starting the summer showings a little late….

The first showing of the summer semester will be on Friday, June 11th, in the usual location. Also as usual, there will be no library checkouts during the summer.

The T-shirts got printed, they turned out great, and we sold a bunch of them at the last two showings of the spring semester. We’ll also have them for sale at Project A-Kon.

The T-shirt design vote took place at the March 26th meeting, and the winning submission was #1, by Michael Van Slyke, with #6 coming in a close second. The process of getting the shirts printed will now begin. Further news will be posted as it becomes available. Questions can be sent to Christian Wagner.

Voting for the T-shirt design will occur during the library break on Friday, March 26th. The ballots will be collected by hand, with one ballot per person. Questions can be sent to Christian Wagner.

The T-shirt design submissions are scanned and posted.

Schedule updates are on hold, temporarily. Thanks for being patient.

Better late than never, the schedules for the previous two showings, as well as listings for the February 19th and 26th showings, are now up on the showings page.

The listing for the January 22nd showing has been updated to match what was actually shown, and the schedule for the January 29th showing has been added.

The schedule for the first showing is up. More to come.

The first showing of the Spring 1999 semester will be on January 22nd, and the rest of the showing dates are listed on the showings page. The will be linked to actual showing schedules as they become available.

The news page has been wiped clean for the new year, and old news items can now be found on the old news page.

And finally, a reminder that the deadline for T-shirt submissions will be at the first meeting on the 22nd. We want to have as many submissions as possible, so any and all club artists are invited to try their hand.

1998

This Friday’s showing will be the last of the semester.

All checked-out library tapes will be due back by the end of the break.

The showing dates for next semester will be up ASAP.

The first meeting of next semester will be the deadline for T-shirt artwork submissions. The official deadline was the end of this semester, but we’re extending it since the deadline was given on such short notice. Once the submissions have been accepted, they’ll be scanned in and posted here on the web site, and voting will occur soon after. The submissions can be color or black-and-white, and can be either a single image or a front-and-back combination. The voting will take place during one of the library breaks of the spring semester.

The schedules for the last two showings of the semester have been updated.

Also of note: the December 4th showing, the last one of the semester, will start late, since the showings room will not be available until 7:30.

First: Tentative schedules are up for the rest of the semester.

Second: This week’s showing will be starting late, due to a conflict of room schedules. Depending on how things go, the library break may or may not be occurring before the showing, and not in the middle of it.

Third: The webmaster would like to hear any and all comments, suggestions, and (especially) complaints regarding the club web site, since it may be undergoing changes during the winter break.

There is a tentative schedule up for the Halloween Showing. The lack of a listing for an October 30th showing was a mistake by your (ever-apologetic) webguy.

Listings through October 23rd are up on the showings page.

The first part of the Fall 1998 showings schedule is up on the showings page. More information to come, and the webmaster promises that the web page will more accurately reflect what we’re showing, this semester. ^_^

The July 10th club showing will be in the alternate showing location, Welch 1.308.

Well, the WebSlave has finally recovered from Project A-Kon (sort of), and finally has the schedule for the June 5th showing online. For those of you who were wondering, the summer showings will be in the same location as the spring showings.

There is also now a list of dates for the Fall 1998 showings on the showings page.

More minor web page updates to come, including (maybe) some contributions from the Secret Masters of the Anime Club….

The summer showings will begin on June 5th. A list of dates is up on the showings page, and will be linked to video schedules when available.

The last showing of the Anime Club @ UT for the spring semester was on May 8th. Stay tuned to the site for news on when the summer showings will begin.

As usual, there will be no library check-outs available during the summer. The library staff will be using the summer break to (re)organize the video and audio tape libraries, and hopefully to add new features to the club’s computer database, to make checkouts and checkins faster and easier.

Project A-Kon 9 is coming up at the end of the month. At least half of the club members attend the Kon every year, for good reason, so make your plans now.
