(Some listings are linked to the show's entry in the Anime Web Guide, or some other relevant web page; short-short summaries written by Rebecca Sims.)

Fushigi Yuugi TV #40-41

A quasi-magical-girls series about a young woman, Miaka, who is transported into the world of a book known as 'Four Gods' Earth and Sky'. As a foretold 'girl from another world', Miaka becomes Suzaku no Miko, a priestess-figure whose duty is to find the seven warriors of the god Suzaku, and then to summon the god. In these episodes, Miaka is trapped in a fantasy created by the Seiryuu seishi Tomo, who also has Tasuki, Mitsukake, Chichiri and Chiriko ensnared in hallucinations of their own.

Yuu Yuu Hakusho TV #6

Urameshi Yusuke is a high-school delinquent with a rough home life; his father is gone, and his mother is essentially a drunkard. He cuts class frequently, is disrespectful to his teachers, and is generally feared by most of his peers. However, deep down, he's not really that bad a guy, as he proves when he rescues a young boy from being hit by a car. Unfortunately, he dies in the accident. Now he has to go through a test in order to return to life, with some help from unexpected quarters.

Rurouni Kenshin #19

The adventures of a wandering samurai and former assassin, now defender of the downtrodden, and his friends who of course get into lots of trouble with local bullies and gangsters so he can rescue them. And the occasional warrior who wants to challenge him.

Earthian #3, Part 1

This series focuses on two Angels, Kagetsuya and Chihaya. Along with other Angels from the planet Eden, they monitor human activity on the Earth. If wrong acts exceed right ones by ten thousand, the Earth will be destroyed. Kagetsuya is much more disparaging of the human condition, while Chihaya is optimistic and tends to break the rules against involvement, to help humans out. Chihaya is also trying to find out the secret behind his black wings and hair, which are extremely unusual among the Angels.
Warning! This episode of the OVA series does contain a very short but explicit sex scene between two male characters. This will be the last program shown for the evening, so if you don't think you'd be comfortable watching that sort of thing, you won't miss any other part of the showing.

Child's Toy TV #11

The insane, bordering on lunatic, story of an 11-year-old-girl who is a child TV star, going to a regular junior high school. Her chief antagonist is Hayama Akito, formerly the school's biggest troublemaker; however, after Sana took it upon herself to help, he seems to be reforming. But now, possibly thanks to her efforts, an interesting love square has evolved. Last episode, Sana finally started coming to terms with the real (platonic) nature of her relationship with Rei.

Fashionable Judo Girl Yawara #6

This is the story of Yawara Inokuma, a Japanese high-school student. She is typical in many ways, but this being anime, she of course also happens to be a highly-trained student of Judo. Her grandfather, a former national Judo champion, has high hopes for her as possibly even an Olympic-class Judo star. It sounds a bit Ranma-esque in some ways, including multiple suitors and impassioned enemies. The series seems to have been very popular in Japan, and the animation looks nice.

Vision of Escaflowne #1
This is the story of a high-school student, Hitomi Kanzaki, who is mysteriously transported to another world, where Earth and the Moon are visible in the sky. As the Girl from the Phantom Moon (Earth), she is heralded as someone with great power in this new world, power which she uses both wisely and not so wisely, during the course of the series. A wonderful show, IMHO, with lots of action and character development. And winged people, come to think of it; we seem to have a theme developing, here...
Note: These are NOT the reeeeeeaally bad Hecto subs of the straight-from-TV episodes. These are from laserdisc, by another group; Emily says that the LD versions of the episodes have a few more minutes' worth of material. So don't skip this just because you think you've seen it before!

All members of the university and local community are welcome to attend this presentation of the latest and greatest in Japanese animation. The showing will run until roughly midnight, so please come when you can. We look forward to having you there!
