A free showing of Japanese animation!
The UT Austin Anime Club will be presenting its tenth screening for the spring semester on Friday, April 4th. The showing is free to all with an interest in great animation and stories.
Special April Fool's Showing!
What does this mean, you may ask? Well, like our other semesterly special showing, the All-Digital one, this is a special evening. Instead of the running series we've been showing, we take a break and show nothing but purely silly, goofy, hilarious anime. Due to some uncertainty about tape availability, parts of the schedule are tentative.
Please keep in mind that showing schedules are always tentative, and that programs are not necessarily listed here in the order they'll be shown.
On the program are:
Most listings are linked to the show's entry in the Anime Web Guide, or some other relevant web page; short-short summaries written by Rebecca Sims. Shows with a '*' by the title are being shown regularly this semester, or are at least continuing for a few more viewings. All shows for this viewing are subtitled in English, except for Goldfish Warning, which may be unsubbed.
- Akazukin Chacha (random episode)
Follows the adventures of Chacha, a young girl who attends a magic school, and her classmates/friends Nakko and Shiine (Riiya turns into a small white wolf), as well as various other people. Chacha, Nakko and Shiine's teacher, Saravi, has given the three of them pieces of a magical talisman which, when assembled, turns Chacha into a Magical Princess who can fight off evil, yadda yadda. Very cute, semi-SD-style show.
- Assemble Insert 1-2 (unconfirmed)
This is about, essentially, the PR attempt by the police force (of Tokyo, is my bet) to both take care of the "Demon Seed" criminal organization, and public ire about the police's attempts to deal with them, by getting a music idol/heroine to both fight DS and be so cute the public doesn't get annoyed. Yeah, it doesn't make much sense to me, either, but hey--it's anime!
- Don't Lose Makendo OVA 1
No idea, can't find a web page. Emily likes it, though. Sounds like some shojo sports thing, from the title, but I could be wrong.
- Goldfish Warning (random episode)
I saw an episode or two of this once, I think, but have no memory of what it's about. And I can't find a web page for it, either. Eheh. ^_^;; It'll be cute, though!
- Kodomo no Omocha (Child's Toy) TV #1
Story of an 11-year-old-girl who is a child TV star, going to a regular junior high school. Being cute and famous, she is of course the 'leader' of the girls, and as such is part of an ongoing battle with the boys in her class. Her chief opponent is Hayama Akito, the leader of the boys.
- Sailor Moon R (random episodes?)
It's Sailor Moon. What more needs to be said? If you have no idea whatsoever what this show is about, you can follow the link. I would mention, however, that R is the Season of the Pink Menace, aka Chibi Usa. Run away! Run away!
So if you're interested in seeing some great animation with some truly diverse stories, check out the Anime Club free showing, open to all on Friday, April 4th, from 7pm to midnight, in Engineering Teaching Center room ETC 2.108. For those not familiar with UT, the ETC building is located near 26th and Speedway; the main entrance is right on the north side of the 26th street bridge.
