A free showing of Japanese animation!
The UT Austin Anime Club will be presenting its eleventh screening for the fall semester on Friday, November 8th. The showing is free to all with an interest in great animation and stories.
Special All-Digital Showing!!!
Everything showing this week is on laserdisc. AND, if things work out, we'll even have surround-sound! All together now: Oooooooh. ^_^ Oh, and as a reminder, our regularly scheduled shows won't be shown tonight, so that we may bring you the following special programs, but the regular series will return next week. And since last week (November 1st) was the special Halloween showing, that means they'll pick up from the showing before that.
Please keep in mind that showing schedules are always tentative, and that programs are not necessarily listed here in the order they'll be shown. Sometimes tapes show up late, or library runs longer than expected, or (once in a great while ) chaos will reign and the masses will force another episode of Fushigi Yugi to be shown...you get the idea.
On the program are:
Most listings are linked to the show's entry in the Anime Web Guide, or some other relevant web page; short-short summaries written by Rebecca Sims. Shows with a '*' by the title are being shown regularly this semester. All shows for this viewing are subtitled in English.
- Tenchi Muyo Movie: Tenchi in Love
Yes, the Tenchi movie! Tenchi and co. go back in time to rescue Tenchi's schoolaged parents from the escaped mega-villain Kain, who has a serious hate on for anyone of the Juraian royal family. Incredibly sweet story with lots of action. See this--'nuff said. ^_^
- Gunsmith Cats #2
Action-adventure from the mind behind 'Riding Bean'. Lots of guns, and cars, and guns (as if this wasn't evident from the title). Rally and May are two women who run a gun shop in Chicago, and who have personal gun collections that could fill five more. In episode 1, they were extorted into helping the government nail a group of crooks; episode 2 picks up parts of that storyline.
- Blue Seed #3
In ancient times, monsters roamed the world; they were eventually sent into an 'endless sleep' by the champion of a princess the monsters had threatened. Now it is the present day, and the monsters have been woken by the birth of the princess' descendants, Kaide and Momiji. Kaide has already died before the beginning of the series; now Momiji is being pursued by the monsters, who want to protect her until they can kill her behind a certain type of shield. Otherwise, her death will send the monsters back to stasis. But Momiji has a mysterious protector...
- Green Legend Ran #1
In the future, Earth was set on by the mysterious, powerful Rodo, which took what little remained of the Earth's resources, leaving the planet a barren desert world. Humankind survived, but now lives a miserable existence under the theocratic Rodoists, who take little notice of the rest of humanity, except as obstacles or aids to power. But a young orphan boy named Ran, and the lovely, mysterious Aira, may be destined to change all of that...
So if you're interested in seeing some great animation with some truly diverse stories, check out the Anime Club free showing, open to all on Friday, November 8th, from 7pm to midnight, in Engineering Teaching Center room 2.108.
