A free showing of Japanese animation!

  Information will be forthcoming as soon as I can get someone in the club to describe this show, as I have never seen it and can't find any info about it on the web.

• Rose of Versailles #22
  Set in 18th century, pre-Revolution France, this show follows the life of Oscar, a young woman raised as a man by her father, who was tired of having only daughters. As Oscar works her way up the ranks, she becomes the chief of Marie Antionette's bodyguards, and the Queen's close friend. As she sees the worsening conditions of the poor in France, she begins to question how things are being done. From what I can see, a very character-intensive show.

• Fushigi Yuugi * #3
  'Magical Girls' show about a schoolgirl, Miaka, who is transported via an ancient Chinese book to another world, where she is declared Suzaku no Miko, the priestess of the guardian deity of the kingdom she finds herself in. Romantic storyline, but also full of lots of fights with Miaka's protectors (which, at this point, are still being discovered). Just remember, Suzaku is a peacock, not a phoenix.

• Magic Knight Rayearth * #3
  More Magical Girls! More hapless Japanese schoolgirls transported to other realms! (Kinda makes you wonder why they don't just stay the heck at home with the doors locked, doesn't it?) Hikaru (the enthusiastic redhead), Umi (the pretty, somewhat clueless blue-haired one) and Fuu (the smart one in green) have been brought to Cephiro by the power of the captured Princess Emeraude. Their goal: to become Magic Knights and awake the Mashin in order to defeat the Evil Priest Zagato and save Cephiro.

• GinRei Special #3
  The GinRei Specials are side-stories from Giant Robo, an OVA series about, basically, a boy, his robot, and his superhero grown-up friends, all fighting the evil superhero organization, with GinRei being the name of the primary female character. The Robo OVAs are very dramatic, but the GinRei Specials range from mildly silly to insane. I've been told #3, however, is actually closer to the OVAs in tone.

• KO Senki Beast II * #3
  This is set in a future where the Earth has literally split along the Equator, so that the two hemispheres are floating separately in space. The heroes of the story are a group of Beasts--people who look mostly human, but who can transform into anthropomorphic animals. These characters also control their tribes' Jinns, powerful animal-shaped mecha who are instrumental in the battle against the Uranus group, the grand villains of the show, whose goal is the reunification of the Earth, and control of Gaia, the global computer/intelligence network. It's not actually as confusing to watch as this summary might be to read. Individual episode summaries are also available for both series I and II.

• Nadia #3
  This show, set in the early 19th century, follows the adventures of a young circus performer named Nadia, her pet lion (whose name I can't remember), and their friend Jean. Nadia, being fairly mysterious herself, of course has a mysterious jewel (named, according to the Web Guide, 'Blue Water'), which several other people are looking for; this, of course, accounts for many of their exploits.

So if you're interested in seeing some great animation with some truly diverse stories, check out the Anime Club free showing, open to all Friday September 13, from 7pm to midnight, in Engineering Teaching Center room 2.108. For those not familiar with UT, the ETC building is located near 26th and Speedway; the main entrance is right on the north side of the 26th street bridge.
