A free showing of Japanese animation!
The UT Austin Anime Club will be presenting its third screening for the spring
semester this Friday, March 1. The showing is free to all with an interest
in great animation and stories.
This week's 'Anime Sampler' program will include:
Text descriptions by Walker from the club mailing list; those shows without summaries have links to relevant Web pages. Shows with a '*' by the title are being shown regularly this semester.
- TEKKAMAN BLADE OVA #1 (subtitled in English)
(Note: Haven't been
able to find anything on this yet, so your guess is as good as mine. Cool title,
though.)
- MIRACLE GIRLS #1 (subtitled in English)
- SHURATO #3 *(subtitled in English)
Shurato and Guy are two friends who compete in martial arts. One day,
during a competition, they get teleported to an alternate world. The next
thing Shurato knows, he and Guy are on opposite sides in a war between the
gods.
- GATCHAMAN OVA #1 (subtitled in English)
- DNA^2 #5 *(subtitled in English)
In episode #1, a time traveller came to our time in order to alter the DNA
of a boy, who would later become a "mega playboy" (having 100 children, of
whom each of the sons would also have 100 children and so on). By
changing his DNA, she hoped to prevent the damage that the mega playboy's
decendents would bring to an overpopulated world. Instead, she used the
wrong formula and CAUSED the boy to become a mega playboy. Now she gets
to clean up the mess she made.
- MARMALADE BOY #5 (subtitled in English)
One day, Miki's parents told her that they were going to divorce and
exchange spouses with another couple. Miki gained a new stepbrother, Yuu,
who has alternately charmed and tormented her. This episode continues
what is basically a soap opera that maintains a plot without any long-term
bad guys. If you like shojo (emphasizes relationships over action) anime,
you'll like this. In later episodes, the various inter-relationships get so
complex that a diagram of them looks like a bad network.
So if you're interested in seeing some great animation with some truly
diverse stories, check out the Anime Club free showing, open to all Friday
March 1, from 7pm to midnight, in Engineering Teaching Center room 2.108.
For those not familiar with UT, the ETC building is located near 26th and
Speedway; the main entrance is right on the north side of the 26th street bridge.
Please feel free to email this account with any questions.
