The U.T. Anime Club presents
A free showing of Japanese animation
The Anime Club of UT Austin will be having its sixth screening for the
spring semester this Friday, April 7 from 7pm thru midnight. Admission
is FREE and is open to anyone with an interest in great animation and
stories.
On the program are:
- LUPIN TV EPISODE: "FAREWELL LOVELY LUPIN" (subtitled in English)
One of only two Lupin TV episodes done by Miyazaki, it bears
his style unmistakably. In this episode, a series of robberies
committed by a robot (like those from Laputa) are linked to Lupin,
an internationally known thief. Zanigata picks up the case, but
the genuine Lupin has also shown up... to clear his name. A great
episode. (30 min) --WHY
- THE IRRESPONSIBLE CAPTAIN TYLER, OVA #10-11 (subtitled in English)
More of the misadventures of that swashbuckling space-ace, Justy
Tyler, and misfit crew of his little ship, the "Soyukaze" (Gentle
Breeze). You can't miss this! (2 x 30 min) --WHY
- CYBER CITY OEDO, OVA #2-3 (subtitled in English)
The story of three convicts released from their orbital prison to
work off their sentences as "Kido" detectives hunting down "career
super-criminals". To make sure they keep their end of the deal, they
are each fitted with an explosive collar around their necks. Their
beat is the Oedo cyber-city, a totally computer-controlled mega-city-
structure that is home to tens of thousands of people.
(2x30 min) --WHY
- THE SAMURAI (subtitled in English)
This is the hilarious and somewhat risque story of high school student
Takashi Shimatsuri, a young samurai-in-training. Despite the anachronism,
he goes to school every day in traditional Japanese garb and clad with
katana (samurai's long sword) in hand. School life is interrupted when
a band of thieves break in and hold his pretty classmate Atsuko hostage.
Takashi saves her in excessively melodramatic fashion, but is then
confronted by an even greater threat - the Tokiya twins, Akari and Kagieri,
two beautiful young ninjas out to retrieve their family's treasure sword
which Takashi's dad Raizo won in a duel years ago. Takashi is probably
strong enough to beat them, except for his one weakness - an allergic fear
of women! But his loyal friends and teacher do their best to cure him of
this before the big duel with the twins... --WMA
