A free showing of Japanese animation

On the program are:

• MACROSS: DO YOU REMEMBER LOVE? (subtitled in English)
  Perhaps one of the greatest anime epics of all time, the Macross movie retells the story from the classic series in which several young people reach out to eachother against the cosmic backdrop of an inter- stellar war. The animation is first-rate, and many of its visuals are unsurpassed more than ten years later.

  It is worth noting that the movie contains some outstanding vocals by Iijima Mari (who also does the voice for Minmei in the movie) that have survived for over ten years. In the US release of the TV series, the music was completely redone and lost most of the original effect.

  Many of you are already familiar with Macross as the first season of the Robotech TV series released in the US by Harmony Gold, but some of the language, much of the personal conflict, and all of the original music were lost when the story was changed to suit American television market media standards. Here is your opportunity to see for yourself what Robotech never was...

  NOTE: the copy that will be shown is a fresh sub from the Perfect Edition LD box, which has digitally remastered sound and includes extra footage dropped from the original video release. In addition, this version has the ORIGINAL ending animation that was cut from the theatrical release. (115 minutes) --WHY

• THE IRRESPONSIBLE CAPTAIN TYLER, OVA #7-8 (subtitled in English)
  It's the new misadventures of that swashbuckling space-ace, Justy Tyler, and the hapless crew of his little ship, the "Soyukaze" (Gentle Breeze). A hilarious must-see. (2 x 30 min) --WHY

• CYBER CITY OEDO #2 (subtitled in English)
  The story of three convicts released from their orbital prison to work off their sentences as "Kido" detectives hunting down "career super-criminals". To make sure they keep their end of the deal, they are each fitted with an explosive necklace around their necks. Their beat is the Oedo cyber-city, which is totally computer-controlled and home to tens of thousands of people of all walks of life. (30 min) --WHY

• MARMALADE BOY #2 (subtitled in English)
  An ongoing series about several young teenage boys and girls and the incredibly complex love interests that develop between them. If you thought the love triangle in "Kimagure Orange Road" was complex, you will need a PhD in relational geometry in order to unravel the higher-order love geometries in this series! (30 min) --WHY & CDS

So come by and check out the Anime Club. The screening will be held in the Engineering Teaching Center, room 2.108. For those not familiar with UT, the ETC building is located on the northeast corner of Speedway and 26th streets. The main entrance is by the north end of the bridge across 26th street.
