The U.T. Anime Club presents
A free showing of Japanese animation
The Anime Club of UT Austin will be having its second screening for the spring
semester this Friday, February 3 from 7pm thru midnight. Admission is FREE to
anyone with an interest in great animation and stories.
On the program are:
- CRAYON SHIN-CHAN (subtitled in English)
more hilarious and poorly-animated mis-adventures of the brattiest
brat in the world, but subtitled this time for your viewing enjoyment.
(30 min) --CDS
- YAMATO: THE NEW JOURNEY (subtitled in English)
a good treat for Star Blazers fans, this made-for-TV movie takes up
where the classic Star Blazers 2nd series leaves off. The former enemy
of the Earth and battleship Yamato, Desslar, returns home to Gamilas
after leaving Yamato to deal with the Comet Empire in the 2nd series.
Once there, though, he finds a new enemy mining his home planet -- the
Black Sun Empire. The ensuing battle results in the enemy's destruction
along with planet Gamilas itself! This disaster sends the neighboring
planet of Iscandar spinning off into space, as well as alerting the rest
of the Black Sun fleet that something is up. Now Desslar and the newly
repaired Yamato with a crew of new cadets, must fight the Black Sun
forces to save Iscandar and its Queen Starsha, who's still living on the
planet. (100 min) --WMA
- PATLABOR OVA P-6, "Kuroi Sanrensei" (subtitled in English)
a rash of terrorist bombings against labor-related installations has
the SV2 tired and on edge. So as a relief from the tension Goto's misfit
second unit decides to sneak away to a public bath and relax. However,
on the way there they find a plain-clothes policeman lying beaten up on
the street. All he can tell them about his assailant is that he, "...had
three moles under his right armpit." Since all the buildings along the
road were closed and the road leads only to the bath house, Goto takes
his men into the public bath after the terrorist. What follows is a
laugh-packed episode as Goto's men try to find the terrorist without
alarming the people in the bath house. (25 min) --WHY
- PLEASE SAVE MY EARTH, OVA #1-2 (subtitled in English)
the story of seven people who came to reaize their previous lives...
on the moon! Years ago, there was an interplanetary war, which completely
destroyed both sides. Seven people of this alien race lived in a space
station on the moon, admiring the newly-formed Earth. In present day
Japan, the seven strangers (of which a few are friends in THIS life) come
to realize the fate of their race in their new lives, and what they did
wrong. The leader of them wants to make amends, and protect the Earth.
VERY little action, and not a lot of bodacious babes in this. However,
if you like a good Sci-Fi drama story, this is for you. (2 x 30 min) --PA
