Other Clubs, Groups, and Showings
  • The Anime Instrumentality Project is a fansubbing group based somewhere in Austin. They often provide fansubs for us (such as Hameln and Argent Soma), and exert their shadowy influence to provide discount pre-registrations to Project: A-Kon each year. It is rumored that one of the officers is secretly an agent of the Instrumentality Council, but everyone we sent to investigate this claim disappeared without a trace.

  • The San Antonio Animation Society (SAAS) is, as its name may suggest, an anime group located in San Antonio. Many of its members often drop in on our club meetings, and vice versa.

  • The Alamo Drafthouse downtown has an anime showing every Tuesday night. (See their web page for the latest schedules and upcoming events.)
Conventions
  • Project: A-Kon, presented each year in Dallas, Texas by Phoenix Entertainment, is the premier anime convention in Texas, and is in fact the largest anime convention in the Southwest. While totally unverifiable, it is estimated that as many as 80% of the Club members attend A-Kon each year.

  • Many of the Anime Club officers and members make a pilgrimage to Anime Expo in Long Beach, California each year. (If it were closer and cheaper, the number would no doubt be even higher.) This is widely considered to be the anime convenion in the U.S., and every otaku is required to go there at least once in his or her lifetime.

  • UshiCon is a new convention that has miraculously sprung up right here in Austin (it's close enough to walk there). 2002 was their first year.

  • Oni-Con is a new convention that is being organized in Houston (not quite close enough to walk there, but still not too far). The first Oni-Con will be held in October, 2004.
Web Resources
  • The Anime Web Turnpike is one of the best and most popular collections of anime-related links on the web.

  • Hitoshi Doi's home page contains a wealth of anime- and game-related information, such as an impressive seiyuu database, a nice cel gallery, and much, much more. 130,000 otaku a day can't be wrong!

  • Anime on DVD is, as may be evident, a site dedicated to anime available on DVD. A good source of reviews, previews, and general anime news.

  • Anime News Network is a fine source for Anime-related news, billing itself as "the Internet's most trusted anime news source." (See also its rival, below.)

  • Anime News Service is another fine source for Anime-related news, billing itself as "the Leading Anime/Manga/J-Pop News and Information Authority." (See also its rival, above.)
Vendor Links
  • CD Japan is an excellent source for CDs and DVDs from Japan.

  • AMO Tokyo is another good source for import goods.

  • AnimeNation is a good source for a wide variety of anime- and manga-related goods (including artbooks, T-shirts, etc.).

  • Right Stuf is both a domestic anime producer (the official licenseholder of titles ranging from Boogiepop Phantom to Gravitation) and a general vendor of anime and related merchandise.

  • Sasuga Books is a good source for manga and Japanese magazines. They also offer subscriptions to all of the top manga serials and magazines. (In fact, due to their shipping arrangements, it is not uncommon to receive the latest copy of your favorite manga on the same day that it goes on sale in Japan!)

  • BK1 is an excellent source for Japanese books, magazines, manga, and other goods. Note, though, that their site is in Japanese only. (If you cannot read Japanese, you might still be able to find other members who may be willing to let you join in on one of their orders; try asking around on the mailing list.)
