commissioning
Commissioning is the pinnacle of an Air
Force ROTC cadet's career--it marks the transition from cadet to officer. During
the year prior to commissioning, cadets compete for active-duty positions in
their desired Air Force career fields. Each occupation in the Air Force is given
an Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC); both officers and enlisted members
alike are designated by their particular AFSC. Cadets who wish to apply compete
for rated positions (pilot, navigator or air battle manager) must do so the year
before commissioning. Ultimately, you will be selected for an AFSC based on the
needs of the Air Force.
