Ramp Up to Access

Throughout history, personal challenges created by disabilities have inspired new inventions that have benefited the entire population. How often have you used a curb cut when rolling a heavy suitcase or pushing a cart? How often do you use a telephone? Both of these inventions were inspired by the desire to help people with disabilities interact with the world around them.

Just as we have learned to make physical accommodations for people with disabilities within our society, it is equally important for us to make electronic accommodations. Without barrier-free access to information resources, people with disabilities may be left sitting at the cyber curb. With simple accommodations, we can ensure that educational and vocational opportunities are equally accessible.

Ramp Up to Access is devoted to providing information on disability issues and links to resources for ensuring that people with disabilities are considered in the development and maintenance of digital media. Our annotated links cover the following areas:

Supersites

Education and Accessibility

Electronic Accessibility

Assistive Technology

Employment and Accessibility

Advocacy and the Law

References and Resources

On occasion, our links will be listed more than once if the subject matter spans more than one category and is significant to both areas.
