Buchanan Dam Visitor Center

I don't recommend stopping here just to look at the rocks. There's a nice view of the dam and the lake, plus the amenities of the visitor center and a post office.

Right next to the lake is a small, but interesting outcrop.

The rocks are deformed schists that seem to belong to the Packsaddle Fm. The rock has been fairly intensely folded. There are some nice-sized reddish garnets in the rock as well. This is a coarser-grained and more obviously folded schist than you typically get to see in the Llano Uplift.

This area is very near the margin of the Lone Grove Granite pluton. In places, granitic material has been injected between the layers of the schist. This is one of several somewhat different types of rock called migmatites.

There is a road cut on Rte. 29 adjacent to the entrance road that appears to be marble. I didn't have time to stop and check it out the last time I was there. If you do, be careful, it is very close to the road.
