Determining Required Resources

The first steps in developing a multimedia project is determining what resources will be required to accomplish the project. There are numerous tools for doing this such as: Gantt Charts, Critical Path Methods, and Program Evaluation and Review Techniques (PERT). An easy to understand explanation of these tools and how they are employed can be found in the following web site.

When submitting a research grant request there are other factors that must be considered as well. The following web site explains those factors in detail.

Creating an Estimated Budget

Once the required resources are identified, the costs for each line item can be estimated and a budget can be developed. The budget should be developed in a spreadsheet format and include both direct and indirect costs.

Funding Sources

Funding sources may seem hard to find but it is really a matter of knowing where to look. Internally to your organization is a good place to start. One should be fully aware of budgetary policies and procedures within their institution. Study previous budgets and learn the "paper trail". This is a good way of identifying the various gatekeepers. If external funding is the preferred method there are several very good directories that identify sources for funding. Several are listed below.
