Preamble

The University of Texas at Austin Student Chapter of the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) is a student based organization committed to furthering education in engineering. The mission shall be accomplished by providing services to prepare members for a career in academia and to educate undergraduate students about graduate education.

Article I

Name

The name of this organization shall be The University of Texas at Austin Student Chapter of the American Society for Engineering Education.

Article II

Purpose

The University of Texas at Austin Student Chapter of ASEE shall focus its efforts toward graduate engineering and science students. The primary purposes are:

In addition, secondary purposes for undergraduates may include: These secondary purposes shall be carried out in collaboration with other appropriate university organizations.

Article III

Membership

  1. Membership and participation shall be free from discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, age, veteran status, or disability.
  2. Student membership shall be open to all graduate and undergraduate students of The University of Texas at Austin with primary emphasis on graduate engineering and science students.
  3. Associate membership shall be open to all staff and faculty at The University of Texas at Austin with primary emphasis on engineering. Associate members may not vote or hold office, but may have all other privileges of a student member.
  4. All members must have record of their student chapter membership on file and must be members of National ASEE.
  5. Any member may terminate their membership at any time with a written notification to the Secretary.

Article IV

Officers and Advisor(s)

  1. The President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Information Resources Officer, and Membership Officer shall be members of the Executive Board. Additional positions on the Executive Board may be created by the President.
  2. The term of office is one year from date of appointment.
  3. All members of the Executive Board shall be elected in a majority vote by the members present at the election in the Spring semester of each year, or earlier if necessary.
  4. The Faculty Advisor shall be an associate member. New Advisors shall be selected by majority vote of the Executive Board.
  5. The Advisor shall have an indefinite term in office.
  6. The Advisor shall resign on written notification to the Secretary.

Article VI

Amendments

  1. All amendments are to be submitted in writing to the Executive Board. If passed by a majority vote of the board, the amendment will then be presented to the membership for vote.
  2. Amendments shall be made by a two-thirds majority vote by the members present.
Bylaws

  1. Elections shall be conducted by show of hands. Absentee ballots shall not be allowed.
  2. A vacancy of the Presidency shall be filled by the Vice-President.
  3. A vacancy of an Executive Board officer other than the President shall be filled at the next scheduled meeting by a member elected by a majority vote of the members present. He/she shall serve until the next regular Executive Board election.
  4. Student chapter dues up to 50% of National ASEE dues may be charged, as deemed necessary by the Executive Board.
  5. Questions of parliamentary procedure shall be decided in accordance with the form detailed in the latest edition of Robert's Rules of Order.
